Finally, it’s the first period and I watch as the team exits the ice as music starts to blare through the sound system. Everyone around me seems to know what this sounds represent but me.

“The kiss cam,” I hear a woman behind me tell her friend.

Oh, that’s right. Now I remember from the game Shawnie and I came to.

I look up to the jumbotron to see that the woman behind me is right. The camera man is already looking for suspecting couples.

With the seat to my right still open and the woman who was sitting next to me having already left for the bathroom, there’s no chance the camera will fall on me.

I watch for a few moments while the camera men find unsuspecting victims. Some couples practically blush when the camera falls on them, while other couples really get into it.

I feel my phone buzz in my pocket and pull it out to find Shawnie’s name on my phone… and the half-naked picture of Ryker on my phone with that tan build body and that sexy smirk.

I need to remember to change this but now isn’t the time. I’ll do it when I get home tonight.

“Hey,” I yell over the loud music.

“How’s it going? Have you told lover boy that you’ll marry him yet?”

“Not yet. It’s first period right now so I’ll have to wait for the game to get over before I get to see him.”

“Yeah, I know… I’m watching the game at home,” she says.

What… really?

“You are?” I ask.

“Of course. My best friend is marrying a hot hockey player and we’re about to get a huge contract with the team. I should know the players a little.”

“Right… I guess that’s a good idea.”

I watch as the Hawkeyes mascot skates on the ice with the Hawkeyes dancers. Then after a minute he skates off the ice and disappears.

“How did your mom take the news when you told her?” Shawnie asks.

My mother is the last thing I want to think about right now.

“Not well, and I haven’t exactly told her that I’m going to do it yet.”

“You haven’t? I don’t see why she’s even that mad about it. It’s short term and your brother is going to get more specialized care.”

“I know but—"

“Oh my God! You’re on the screen,” she yells.

“What?” I ask, looking up to find myself with my phone to my ear, staring back at myself. “How the hell…”

The picture changes from me to the top of the stairs of the stadium where the massive Hawkeyes bird mascot with his double 0 jersey comes running out and down the stairs.

Where is he coming from?

I don’t spot him across the rink from me. I look to my right and then to my left but I still don’t see him until all of a sudden I hear Shawnie shriek.

“He’s behind you!” she yells with glee.

I turn in my chair to my left to find him taking the last couple of steps into my row.

The golden brown fury-looking bird, covered in a turquoise, black and white Hawkeyes jersey, takes a step into my row taking up the full width of the area due to his wide costume.
