He looks down at me and makes a motion with both of his hands to stand up, though I don’t hear any words coming from the suit.
For a moment I do not know what to do.
Am I in his way?
Does he want me to move?
I try to push my knees in one direction to let him past me but he shakes his big bird head to signal that’s not what he wants.
His hands signal and up motion again.
“He wants you to go with him,” someone yells up at me from a couple of rows below.
“Go girl!” someone behind me cheers.
A few people smile at me while giving me the shoeing motion with their hands to go with the oversized bird.
“He wants you to move your ass, Juliet. Go!” I hear Shawnie on the line say.
Finally, Shawnie's voice jostle me into movement.
I forgot we were still even on the phone with the confusion of what’s happening.
Something on the ice catches my eye.
Ryker.
With the biggest boutique of roses I’ve ever seen in his hand.
My jaw drops and my eyes widen.
What is happening… and are those for me?
“OH. MY. GOD!” Shawnie screams over the phone.
“I’m going to have to call you back,” I say.
“Yeah I think so,” she says and then she hangs up and I push the phone into my peacoat.
He’s staring back at me as the crowd goes wild.
Even from here I can see that panty-dropping smile as he watches me walk to the end of the row towards the tunnel and take the Hawkeyes' hand.
I walk hand in hand with the man in the Hawkeye suite as he leads me over to the metal side panels of the tunnel where the players come out.
Two security guards are on the other side waiting for me.
People jump over the seats to get out of the row we’re walking through to make room for us.
What the hell is happening?
I look back at the ice to see that Ryker’s eyes haven’t left me for a second. He watches patiently as we make our way to the tunnel.
The mascot turns to me behind him and points to the security guards.
“He’s going to lift you up and we’re going to help you down,” one of the security guards says to me.
Since I guess the mascot is mute?
