“How’s he doing?” I ask, searching for the leaderboard.

I see him currently sitting at second.

“He got a rough start, but he’s close to the number one spot. I think the guy in first will drop as long as Seven can keep his position and hold it. They haven’t played each other yet,” Reeve says and then tosses back the rest of his beer.

He must be stewing while watching his current opponent line up for their shot.

I look over to find that Lake is the only one without a beer.

“I’m going to order something. You want a beer?” I ask him.

“Thanks, but I’m on-call as the designated driver if the girls need a ride from the club.”

“Got it,” I tell him and then head to the bar to order a beer from Oakley.

A few minutes I’m on my way back to our table when I see Lake pick up his phone.

“The club is packed?.... Well, if she isn’t having fun, why don’t you all come here?”

The girls might be headed this way, and my first thought is seeing Penelope on her birthday. Something I had come to terms with that probably wouldn’t happen tonight.

“The bar is busy, but we have a big table. You girls can have it; we’ll sit at the bar if you still want a girl's night,” he says, looking at all of us, and we nod in agreement.

“Do they want us to go get them?” Briggs asks, turning behind him to grab his jacket off the back of the barstool short backs.

Lake shakes his head. “They’re already in the Penelope’s car. None of them have had anything to drink. They just hadn’t decided where to go yet,” Lake tells Briggs.

“Ok, see you soon. Be safe. Love you, Tessie.”

He ends the call and looks over at Kaenan and Briggs.

“The girls are headed here but they’re just going to hang with us. I guess some asshole got handsy with Penelope when he heard it was her birthday,” Lake says.

I’m just about to get out of my seat and head to the club to teach that asshole a lesson when Kaenan leans in.

“Does she want us to beat the shit out of the guy? We can roll over there now,” Kaenan says.

I like his idea.

“No, the last thing you need is another assault charge,” Lake says. “They don’t want to be there anyway. The club is overcapacity, and the bouncers aren’t stopping people from coming in, so they are having a head time getting beverage service with the amount of people. They’d rather be here in case something like that happens again.”

“It won’t happen here. Not with the regulars knowing who they belong to,” Brett says.

Ten minutes later, we’re all watching Seven play for the top spot when Lake’s attention veers to the door.

“The girls are here,” I hear him announce.

He turns around on the barstool next to mine and waves them over.

Tessa, Autumn, and Isla all head straight for us… and then I see her… at the back of the line of Hawkeyes girlfriends headed this way.

Her long blonde hair is lightly curled at the ends, she has a bright smile, and the smallest fucking powder blue mini dress designed to make sure I won't be taking my eyes off her for the rest of the night.

Tessa smiles at Lake while leading the rest of the women further into the bar and toward our table.

My pulse quickens at the sight of Penelope. No wonder the asshole singled her out. She’s always beautiful no matter what she’s wearing, but tonight, I’m more surprised she only had to fight off one unwelcome advance in the club.

And by the breakneck speed of every single guy in this bar turning to watch Penelope walk in, I have a feeling I might end up in jail for assault if anyone else tries anything on her.
