Page 37 of His Damaged Purpose

I had him subdued by the time he was able to speak again. No one messed with my mate. No one.

“This isn’t over. I told Steelwick they were wrong. You were the one who hurt Nathan,” he said. Had he been unaware that we had already been there, done that? Or was he delusional?

“We know the truth. Nathan woke up and told us everything. You’re in trouble, Jerome. Steelwick is looking for you now. And if you were smart, you would shut your damn mouth.” Silas was taking no prisoners—fine, one prisoner. It was sexy as fuck.

Once the cuffs were double-checked, Jasper shifted back to his human form and took over, leading the alpha away. Silas linked his fingers in mine. “Not gonna lie. You looked pretty sexy there.”

I laughed. “I was thinking the same thing about you. But let’s make a deal. Maybe we don’t do that again, though.”

“No. Definitely not. This is why I work with numbers. They are never going to ambush me in the woods.” Although based on how people were scared of mathematics, I wasn’t sure how many people knew that.

I squeezed his hand. “I’m glad you came with me. You do know this isn’t typical, though, right? We don’t usually have people come here—”

“And use your territory as a hideout from the enforcer pack? Yeah, I didn’t think that was the norm.” Silas kissed my cheek. “You were amazing out there, mate. I’m thankful to call you mine.”

My cheeks grew hot. “Thank you.”

We stopped at Morgan’s on the way home to fill him in on all that happened. He listened intently and called Steelwick. This wasn’t anything we had to handle. They would do it all, from council paperwork to making sure he had consequences for his actions, which was good. I wanted him out of our territory as quickly as possible.

“I’m sorry you had to deal with that.” Morgan looked directly at my mate as he said it.

“I’m glad I was there. It meant he was taken down before he could do harm. Him attacking me made him recognizable.” Silas wrapped his arm around me. “He was doomed the second he let my mate see him take the first swing.”

It was true. “Mine.” I rubbed my cheek against his chest. “Mine.”

Morgan shooed us out. “Go play the mine game in your home. I’m going back to bed.”

Nathan was in the kitchen putting the kettle on when we walked in.

“Cocoa?” he offered.

It was so much better than tea. “I could be persuaded.” I grabbed mugs for Silas and me. “Sirens wake you?”

“Yes, but also… my beast was being a jerk. He kept wanting me to go outside and hunt.” He tossed each of us a packet of mix for our mugs.

“We need to tell you about tonight. Those sirens… they were Jerome.”

Nathan’s body tensed up, his eyes darting around.

“We caught him. Really Jasper caught him,” I assured Nathan. “He can’t do you any more harm. I just wanted you to know.”

“I hope he suffered,” Nathan mumbled. “I’m glad he can’t harm anyone else now.”

I was too.

“What happens next?” Nathan asked.

“He’ll be tried for his crimes. They are very quick. Within the week he will receive his sentencing and will be punished.”

“Will I have to testify? Will I have to see him?”

“We need your testimony, but you won’t have to see him.”

Nathan let out breath. “Oh thank goodness. Thank you. For everything.”

I squeezed his hand. “You’re welcome.”
