“But if they’re so big and powerful, then what could they want from you guys?” Becca said.

“Nothing good,” Griz said.

“Yeah, I’d rather not find out,” Wyatt said.

“Still, Ripper seems convinced that we can do a one-off gun deal,” Griz said.

“What do you think?” Wyatt said.

“I don’t know,” Griz said. “But Kate’s right. Something needs to change. Death’s Head keeps coming after us with heavy firepower.”

“Yeah, and apparently they have a crystal ball as well,” Becca said.

“What do you mean?” Griz said.

“First the motel I ran away to, then this cabin that nobody was supposed to know about. How do they keep finding us?”

“That’s a good point,” Wyatt said. “Where are the bodies now?”

“Buried them out there,” Griz said, gesturing toward the woods outside.

“Was there anything on them that might clue us in as to how they found this place?” Wyatt said. “I mean, nobody knows about this cabin.”

“Ripper does,” Becca said.

“Nothing on them,” Griz said. “I took their cell phones.”

“Why?” Kate asked.

“There might be something on there,” Griz said. “To tell us how they found us. If Ripper was involved, or if it was just a coincidence that he showed up when he did.”

“Smart move, Griz,” Wyatt said. “If we can get into those phones, we can see who they’ve been calling. Even if Ripper isn’t on there, we might get some stuff off their text messages, or names, or some other useful shit like that.”

“Yeah, except we need someone who can hack into a phone,” Griz said.

“What about Devil?” Becca said. “He’s into gadgets and stuff, maybe he could…”

“Noooooo,” Griz said, shaking his head.

“Not a good idea, Becca,” Wyatt said. “He’d probably take it apart like a clock and then have no idea what to do or how to put it back together.”

“You’d get it back duct-taped together and about as functional as an old rock,” Griz said.

“So who, then?” Becca asked.

“There is one guy,” Wyatt said. “Benny.”

“Wyatt,” Kate said, looking like Wyatt had just suggested they should all hit themselves in the face with a hammer.

“I know,” Wyatt said.

Becca was confused. What could be so bad about this guy Benny that Kate would make such a yuck face at the idea of going to see him?

“Who’s Benny?” she said.

“He’s this little weird guy who lives out in the woods,” Wyatt said. “Middle of nowhere.”

“He’s not weird,” Kate said, punching Wyatt lightly on the arm. “He’s manic depressive and schizophrenic, and since he lives out there alone, nobody keeps an eye on him to make sure he stays on his meds.”
