Pony looked around the table and said, “Everybody’s so interested in my love life.”

“You got in there?” Jocko said. “With Piper? Man, I had no luck picking that lock.”

“That’s because she’s got standards, Jocko,” Devil said. “You know, a little class. Unlike those bargain basement Walmart hos you’re always pulling down.”

“Nothing wrong with Walmart,” Jocko said. “They work in volume, just like me.”

“Gentlemen, let’s stick to business for now and grill Pony and Jocko on their love lives another time,” Boomer said. “What do we know about these three bank robbers?”

“Thrill seekers,” Pony said. “Seemed to me like they were hopped up on meth. Made a lot of noise at the race, so I followed them the next day.”

“Which was yesterday.”

“Yeah.”

“And you saw them do the bank robbery, and then followed them?” Boomer said.

“We caught one of the guys as he tried to drive off,” Pony said. “Real winner. Said something about the cops raiding their cabin nearby.”

“That must’ve been the shooting the local PD told us about,” Wyatt added. “We’ll get to that part.”

“Right,” Pony said. “So we had Devil sit on the guy we caught…”

“I still kind of resent that,” Devil said.

“Anyway,” Pony said, ignoring the interruption, “another one of the bank robbers tried to get away in our direction. Once he saw us with his buddy, he turned around and hauled ass. Wyatt and I chased him, but he got away.”

“Then there actually must’ve been four of them, in total,” Boomer said.

“Four?” Pony said. “No, three.”

“Four. If you caught one, and one got away, there had to have been four.”

“Why?” Pony asked.

“Because our guy at the local PD told us that there were two robbers killed at the cabin in the shootout,” Boomer said.

“What?”

“Yeah,” Wyatt said. “We just found out from our guy McKenzie, like, right before this meeting. Not only were two of your new racing buddies killed, it wasn’t the locals who did the shooting. It was the FBI.”

“The Feds?” Pony said. “Coming down that fast? In force? That doesn’t make any sense.”

“It wasn’t in force. They said it was some undercover agent who happened to witness the robbery, pursued the robbers to the cabin, got caught up in a shootout.”

“What, some undercover agent just happened to be standing there by the bank while the Dipshit Trio decided to make the worst mistake of their miserable lives?” Pony said. “I don’t buy that.”

“Either do I,” Boomer agreed. “That level of coincidence is impossible.”

Wyatt said, “So how did the feebs know to be there?”

“Pony was there,” Devil said. “Maybe they were on Pony.”

“Why would the Feds be following Pony?” Wyatt asked.

“That’s a good question,” Boomer said, “but again, it does seem like too much of a coincidence to ignore. Pony?”

“I didn’t see anyone following me,” Pony said with a shrug. “But anything’s possible.”
