“I don’t feel like a failure, but I am guilty of becoming stagnant.”

He curled his hand around her ass, fingertips edging close to the tight ring he’d fucked the night before. “And now?”

A soft moan emitted from her throat. “You definitely rocked my world, Piers. I can still feel what you did.”

“No pain, though, right?” He’d lubed her over and over to make the experience as easy and pleasant as possible.

“No pain.” She shifted onto her tiptoes, lips hovering an inch from his.

He kissed her. The tender melding of their mouths quickly brought out the beast in him. The one who wanted to take every single part of her and make her his.

And to plant that child in her womb.

It was high fucking time for her to be where she finally belonged—in his arms. In Ash’s.

Locked between them.

They were so engrossed in their slow, deep kiss that he didn’t hear Ash come into the bungalow until he cleared his throat.

With a soft whimper, Sylvee broke away. They both turned to face their lover.

Ash’s face was blank…too clear of any expression.

Which meant he was hiding something from them.

Piers knew his lover better than anybody else on the planet. When Ash left the bungalow to grab a clean set of clothes from the place they slept when they didn’t have a woman, his dark eyes had been clear and that crease between his brows smooth.

Not the case now.

He opened his mouth to ask what happened, but Ash sent him a glance that stopped him.

Not in front of Sylvee. Not now.

He could almost hear his lover’s voice rough echoing inside his mind.

With an imperceptible nod at Ash, Piers settled a hand on Sylvee’s spine. “Let’s get those chores done and then we’ll find some trouble to get into.”

“Ooh, what kind of trouble?” She didn’t pick up on Ash’s mood shift, and if she did, she’d honed her acting skills in the years since Piers had been around her.

Ash swung toward the door and walked out. Piers propelled Sylvee out too and brought up the rear. Hell. What had Ash gotten involved in? He’d only been gone for a short period of time.

Whatever happened left his lover’s shoulders stiff with tension. Piers could almost feel the energy rolling off the man, and it wasn’t sexual energy.

It was the I’m-going-to-beat-the-shit-out-of-somebody variety.

Piers really needed to get him alone to talk, but that wouldn’t be possible with Sylvee as their sidekick during chore time.

The air was crisp and cool in his nose. He sucked in a deep breath, filling his lungs with sap and earth. Both things he loved about the ranch.

“There’s fog on the mountains.”

He drew her close. “Pretty, isn’t it?”

“Beautiful. This place is so…primitive. Untouched. And I thought Washington had a raw beauty. Alaska surpasses that by a hundredfold.”

Ash had been walking a step ahead of them. He dropped back to walk beside Sylvee. “I’ve told Piers many times that Alaska is the best place to live. It’s expensive in some ways because supplies cost more. But there aren’t many places in the country where you can survive as a minimalist like we do.”

“I still want to see that greenhouse.” She waved in the direction.
