As we fought, memories of my past flowed through my mind, the years spent running from my family, who had hunted me like a dog. If only I’d known my brother hadn’t wanted to kill me, but save me, it would’ve been different. However, there was no use in dwelling on the what-ifs anymore.

Shooting my arm upward, I blocked a fist heading toward my head and then lifted my left leg to counter Kyle’s fast kick. I spun and launched a punch toward Kyle’s back. He ducked and swiveled, not allowing me to connect.

The struggles I’d faced made me push myself harder. Those nights of hiding in gyms to find a moment’s peace, sneaking in just before closing time to work out in order to maintain my skill and strength, then to have a proper shower and not take a whore’s bath in gas station bathrooms, and finally to catch a few hours of safe sleep before slipping out again unnoticed the next morning when the place opened again. Those days of looking over my shoulder and watching every person who walked by me as if they were about to brandish a debilitating weapon. Each day had brought a new challenge, and one wrong move would have meant the end for me.

Squatting under Kyle’s high kick and launching into my own, I tapped his shoulder, but not enough to make him lose his balance.

Memories that were once debilitating were now a source of pride. I’d come so far. I was no longer a scared, helpless girl, hiding in the shadows. I had found my inner wolf and a pack who accepted me, and I’d fight tooth and nail to survive.

The intensity of our sparring increased, our limbs blurring together as we exchanged blow after blow. My muscles screamed in protest, but the thrill of the fight pushed me onward, urging me to prove myself to Kyle and show him I wasn’t the same person I’d been all those years ago.

“Is that all you got?” I shouted, mimicking him as my voice filled with fire. I ducked under Kyle’s punch and landed a solid hit across his jaw. He stumbled back, surprise flickering across his face before he regained his footing and lunged at me again.

The continued dance of aggression, no longer playful, was a blur of fists and feet as we pushed our bodies to their limits.Though Kyle had years of training on me, I refused to give in. Not when I had come so far and fought so hard for my freedom.

In that moment, I was the embodiment of the fierce, untamed wolf within me. And I wouldn’t be defeated.

As our fight dragged on, the energy in the clearing heightened. The surrounding shifters roared, feeding off our ferocity. Time seemed to slow down as I focused on each of Kyle’s movements, my body reacting instinctively to counter his attacks.

Sensing an opening, I executed a lightning-fast move, catching Kyle off guard. I nearly pinned him to the ground, but my brother narrowly slipped out of my grasp. He quickly regained his footing and prepared to deliver a powerful blow, surely intending to end the match.

Nope. The sparring match wasn’t about to end with my defeat.

My wolf surged forth, her primal instincts taking over as she reveled in the adrenaline-fueled battle. We became one, a seamless blend of human and animal strength and agility. My vision sharpened, my senses heightened, and the pounding of our heart echoed through me.

With newfound power coursing through my veins, I let go of everything my mind had used in the past to contain me, belittle me. At the last possible moment, I shifted into my wolf with an ease I’d never done before.

I swiftly launched a counterattack, catching Kyle completely off guard. His eyes widened in shock, but it was too late. I pinned him to the ground, my victory assured.

The shifters erupted into cheers and applause, their enthusiasm filling the air. Their admiration made my pride swell, but my focus remained on Kyle. I held my breath, waiting for his reaction, desperate for him to accept all of me. Including the wolf I had finally embraced.

Instead of disgust or anger, a smile spread across Kyle’s face. “That was a good move,” he said, his voice filled with grudging respect. He reached out slowly, gently patting my wolf’s head. I growled softly, then quickly licked his wrist, making him laugh and pull away, but I lay down, trapping him under my wolf.

“Um, can you get off now?” Kyle chuckled.

Before jumping off him, I licked his face, then tapped my front paws on the dirt as my tongue dangled out of my mouth. Exhausted and sore as I was, I didn’t hold back from dancing around my brother in elation.

“Okay, okay, you mutt. You won. No need to show off.” The proud smile on his face made me even happier, then he got serious. “Remember to do whatever it takes to win every time. No matter what, you fight to win.”

My wolf growled in agreement. Kyle stood up, winked at me, and with a newfound respect for my abilities, he turned to train the others.

A bag of spare clothes was waiting for me. I’d wanted to be prepared, just in case I inadvertently shifted. I proudly pranced away from the area, my bag clenched between my teeth. Once I found a secluded spot, I shifted back into my human form and quickly changed into fresh clothes. When I returned to the clearing, I found Ridge waiting for me, appreciation and desire written all over his face.

“Quite a show you put on there.” His gaze roamed over me like I was a feast laid out before him. “You’ve definitely earned some serious bragging rights. Rub it in Clawson’s face when you get the chance.”

“Already planning on it.” I grinned, winking playfully at him. As I curled into Ridge’s side, my sudden openness and affection surprised us both. But it seemed right, like I was finally becoming the person I was always meant to be.

Ridge whispered into my ear, his voice low and sultry. “Watching you fight like that, how you bested Kyle, it’s got me all worked up. A little sparring session of our own would be a lot of fun. Pinning each other, getting all sweaty, and when we can’t take it anymore, me thrusting into you or you sinking onto me. Fuck, little wolf, it’s going to be so hot.”

As I blushed, Ridge nuzzled his nose into my neck, his teeth gently nibbling on my earlobe. The sensation only fanned the flames of our desire, and I clenched my thighs together.

“What do you say, little wolf? How soon can we get our own sparring session going?” Ridge took in a deep, slow breath. “I can smell that you’re ready for me. I need to be inside you.”

His growl had me ruining the new panties I’d just put on.

Wanting to play, I gave him a flirtatious laugh and danced away from him, my blood heating with anticipation for what was to come.

Ridge’s eyes glowed with lust and amusement when a couple of shifters from the Montana Pack who had come to train approached us, their expressions full of respect as they greeted Ridge. Among them was a young, extremely handsome shifter who clearly didn’t doubt his good looks. And he seemed particularly interested in me. He flashed me a charming smile, oblivious to the sexual tension between Ridge and me.
