“Long story, but mostly, I came to find my daughter. Did not expect to walk right into a whole mess of trouble, though.”

I snorted. “Seems to be the norm around here lately.”

“Is it always this intense?” He sat on a bar stool after I gestured to it, encouraging him to relax.

“Only since Tori arrived,” I joked. “She has a tendency to rile things up.”

“Hey, I heard that!” Tori pulled a face at me.

Good grief, I loved that woman. “Good. I meant it.”

“Charming, Fido.” She stuck her nose in the air. “Excuse me for a moment, I need to shower. Be right back.”

The shower was a lie. She needed a moment to compose herself after meeting her biological father. “Take your time,” I said. The air was thick with unspoken words and emotions, but we had to face this head-on.

I turned back to the other wolf. “Jaxon, I’m going to marry your daughter.”

He chuckled. “Yeah, son. I figured.”

“Look, we’re fated mates. We’ll be together no matter what. But it’d mean a lot if we had your blessing.”

“Bold move, asking me that right after we’ve met. But I respect it.”

“Thank you. So, what do you say?”

“Guess I don’t have much choice in the matter. You two are meant to be, right?”

“Absolutely.”

“Then you have my blessing. Just promise me one thing.”

“Name it.”

“Keep her safe. That’s all I ask.”

“Of course. I will protect her with my life.”

“Good. Let’s hope you don’t have to prove that anytime soon.”

“Agreed.”

As we waited for Tori to return, I found myself liking Jaxon more and more. He was genuine and honest—qualities I admired in anyone. And it was clear he cared about his daughter, even if they’d only just met. The man had been through hell and back, but he was here, ready to help us in any way he could.

“Before anything else happens, I want you to know that I’m here to help you both,” Jaxon said. “Whatever this hunter issue is, we’ll deal with it together.”

“Appreciate it,” I said. “It’s a mess, but we’ll get through it.”

My heart pounded as I studied Jaxon, his sharp eyes never leaving mine. The tension between us was as thick as the air before a thunderstorm, and I was a bit defensive. He might be Tori’s father, but I was her fated mate, her protector. It was my responsibility to ensure her happiness and safety.

I tried to keep my voice steady. “If you have something against me, now’s the time to spit it out. I don’t want any surprises later that could upset Tori.”

Jaxon’s brow furrowed before a startled laugh escaped him. “Relax, kid. I don’t have anything against you. In fact, I like what I’ve seen so far.” He paused, his gaze drifting off for a moment, then it returned to me. “It’s just, having a daughter is still new to me. And finding out someone’s already taking her away? Well, it’s a lot to take in.”

I understood the sentiment. If I were in his shoes, I’d probably feel the same way. But Tori was my world now, and nothing would come between us. Even if it meant going up against her own father. “Believe me, Jaxon, I’ll do everything inmy power to protect her. She’s my mate. My world. And I am glad she found her real father. I know how much it means to her.”

A small smile played on his lips. “Just remember, kid, we’re on the same side here. We both want what’s best for Tori.”

“Understood. Look, you don’t know Tori, but let me tell you something about her. She’s been through hell and back, yet she’s still the strongest, smartest, most selfless woman in the world. And she deserves every kind of happiness life has to offer.”
