“Sadie McClain, the actress?” he prompted, glancing over in time to see her reaction.

Kiana’s eyes widened. “The Sadie McClain? Hollywood princess, mega-movie star?”

Dev grinned. “That’s the one.”

“We’re staying at her house?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Kiana stared straight ahead. “Wow. I mean...wow.”

Kiana missed one of the directions the map app gave.

Fortunately, Dev heard it and made the turn. Soon, they were on a road, climbing up a mountain. The homes were spaced further apart and were larger and more opulent.

Dev slowed to turn into a gate. A guard met him with an electronic tablet in his hand. “May I help you?”

Dev glanced down at the text message Hawk had sent and read the address to the gate guard.

The guard checked the tablet. “Devlin Mulhaney and Kiana Williams? Could I see some identification?”

Dev and Kiana handed over their driver’s licenses.

After a thorough check, the guard handed back the licenses and hit the button to open the gate. “Have a good evening.”

Dev rolled up his window and drove through the gate. “I hope the gang that found us at The Big Wave doesn’t try to get into this gated community. I doubt one unarmed gate guard could keep them out.”

“I was thinking the same thing,” Kiana said quietly.

Dev followed the app's directions, winding through the streets and climbing higher up the hillside until the app declared they’d arrive at their destination.

A private drive led to a sprawling modern home with sleek lines of massive glass windows and white stucco glowing in the starlight.

Dev parked to the side of the home in front of a four-car garage.

“How are we supposed to get inside?” Kiana asked.

“Hawk gave me a code for a keypad.” He glanced across at Kiana. “Ready?”

“It’s almost too beautiful,” Kiana said.

“It’s amazing on the outside,” Dev said. “Let’s check it out on the inside.” He exited the car and came around to help Kiana out of her seat. Then he opened the trunk, pulled out their small carry-on luggage and set the bags on the pavement. Dev locked the car and pocketed the key.

Since Kiana carried Meredith’s electronic tablet and journal, Dev gathered both of their suitcases and carried them toward the front entrance.

At the massive double doors, he found a keypad on the wall and entered the number Hank and Sadie had provided.

The door lock clicked. Dev turned the handle and pushed the door open into a foyer of white marble floors and cathedral ceilings.

“Do they have a security system we need to disarm?” Kiana asked.

“They disarmed it remotely and have it set to reengage after midnight.” Dev glanced at his cell phone. “That gives us an hour to explore inside and out before the alarm is set.”

“Then we’d better get going. I want to see it all while the tablet is charging.” Kiana found an outlet beside a table near the entrance and plugged the tablet into the charger. She laid it and the journal on the table. “It shouldn’t take long to charge. In the meantime, let’s look around.”

Nightlights lit their way through the foyer into a spacious living room with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Honolulu and the ocean in the distance. Since they were far up a mountainside, the city lights twinkled below as did the stars above. The view was stunning.

Kiana drew in a deep breath and let it out slowly. “I feel guilty.”
