Dev continued to pace, cursing as he went. “The primary reason we stormed the drug exchange was to get more information about who’s behind the deal so we could locate Kiana’s friend. Now, we have no more information than we did to start with, and Kiana’s missing.” He stopped in front of Silas. “Are you absolutely certain you don’t know who was supplying the drugs?”

“Sorry, man.” Silas shook his head. “I wish I did.”

Dev’s radio headset crackled in his ears. “Dev, Hawk here. We sent more images of the drugs and their packaging to Swede. He’s still working hard to trace the manufacturer. I hope to hear from him soon.”

“And how long will it take to trace the shipment back to who authorized it to be sent? If they haven’t noticed the missing drugs at the manufacturer by now, it could take weeks to dig through the bullshit to find who sent it here.” Dev threw his hands in the air. “Kiana and Meredith might not have weeks.”

“Have faith,” Hawk urged. “I’ve seen Swede work miracles before.”

Dev stared at the wrecked van, his heart twisting inside his chest. “We could use a miracle right now.”

“Hold on, I’m getting a call from Swede now,” Hawk said. “I’m making it a three-way call.”

Dev’s cell phone vibrated in his pocket. He dug it out and answered, “Dev here.”

“Are you still there, Swede?” Hawk asked.

“I’m here,” Swede’s voice came through clearly. “I found a match on the drugs with a manufacturer out of New York. MHP, Inc. the MHP stands for Mercer Health and Pharmaceuticals. It’s a family-owned corporation run by Roland Mercer and his wife, Ingrid.”

Dev gripped his phone tightly. “Could you tell who authorized the shipment to be delivered here?”

“Not yet,” Swede said.

A heavy weight settled in the pit of Dev’s belly. Just as he’d thought, working through a company’s shipment authorizations would take time. Time they might not have.

“Something else,” Swede continued, “I dug through the ancestry site and found where Tina M gave Meredith her social media name of T. Mercer. It’s a bit too much of a coincidence if you ask me.”

“Between T. Mercer and Mercer Health and Pharmaceuticals? Yeah. There has to be a connection.” Hope welled in Dev’s chest. “Were you able to trace the IP address?” His breath caught and held as he waited for Swede’s response.

“I did.” Swede paused for only a second. “It originated from an address on Oahu. I ran a check on who owns the property at that address. It’s owned by ARM Solutions, Inc., a medical research corporation with branches in various countries around the globe. And, get this, it’s a subsidiary of MHP, Inc.”

“Mercer.” Dev’s pulse kicked into overdrive. “The address?”

“Sending it via text now,” Swede said.

Dev’s phone chirped with the incoming text from Swede.

“It might not be the answer,” Swede said. “But I hope it helps you find Meredith and Kiana.”

“Right now, it’s all we have,” Dev responded.

“I’m still looking. Anything I find, I’ll send your way. Out here.” Swede dropped out of the three-way call.

“Hawk, you still there?” Dev asked.

“I am,” he replied.

“I’m heading for the address Swede sent.”

“How?” Hawk asked. “I thought you said the van was toast.”

“Fuck.” Dev remembered the fact he’d arrived in the van. He glanced at the wreck. “No one’s going anywhere in the van.”

“I can have someone pick you up in two minutes,” Hawk said.

Silas nudged Dev with his elbow.

Dev glanced at the former gang member. “Hold on, Hawk.”
