Most of the work I needed to do after I hacked in was already done. The part that would take time was actually getting past the encrypted security and firewalls. They had one of the more complex systems money could buy, so it should take me about fifteen or twenty minutes to get in, then hopefully five or ten minutes to get any information I might find. I only hoped Cory and Adrien didn’t have trouble keeping our absence from being noticed. I restarted the computer quickly and switched it to safe mode. After I was able to create an administrative profile, I logged into the profile I created and started looking at the server access profiles. I skipped anyone with minor access to the system and focused on the administrators. Once I found them, I pushed Dad’s software and connected the phone to the computer before I pulled up a command prompt window. I pushed the chair back and grabbed the keyboard, my fingers ready to work. The moment I clicked on the command prompt, I felt a surge of energy push through my body, and the command prompt went crazy.

My initial reaction was to panic, thinking I’d fallen into some security trap. I took a deep breath to calm myself, determined to stem the flow of whatever I just set off. The command was running, but it was moving too fast for me to see what it was doing, so I scrolled to the top, and then my mouth dropped.

That was my command, word for word, but I hadn’t given it yet. I scrolled down and started reading the prompt output, my disbelief growing by the minute. All of it was exactly what I intended the prompt to do. When prompt finished, I wondered if this was some sort of little gift the Moon Goddess was giving us so we could get out of there without issues. I decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth for now, and I went to input the second command to pair my phone to the computer so I could start transferring over the information I needed. I felt the surge of energy flowing from my hands to the keyboard once more and watched in astonishment as the command my fingers were about to type appeared faster than my fingers could possibly ever hope to type on the window before my phone lit up and started the information transfer.

My ass landed on the chair behind me.

Tozi, what the hell? I asked because I didn’t understand.

We have a gift now, she said, puffing out her chest.

Gift? I asked, nonplussed.

Yes, a gift from the Moon Goddess. We received it when we completed the bond to Cory.

You didn’t think it was important to, oh I don’t know, maybe tell me before this? I answered, trying not to freak out.

I didn’t know what it was until it happened! Kara just reached out and told me it would be a possibility, she defended.

Well, what exactly is it?

We can transfer our commands to any computer. Make it do anything we want as long as we have the code knowledge for it in our minds already.

We can communicate with computers? My jaw dropped.

No. Computers aren’t sentient. We can simply do what we do already without having to type it out ourselves. We’re faster and more efficient, but we’re not suddenly some sort of computer hybrid or whisperer, she sneezed, laughing at me for having the thought, as if this was so much more normal than what I suggested.

The phone beeped, pulling me out of my head, telling me it was done transferring, and I looked at the computer.

We just did almost an hour of work in ten minutes.

Yep. Efficient, and guess what? she asked with a bit too much giddiness in her voice.

What? What else? I asked, almost afraid to know.

No more missing syntax, she sneezed again, wagging her tail.

I sat there as I let her words process, and then I let out a string of profanity, accidentally doing it through the mind-link.

‘What’s going on? Are you okay?’ Cory asked, his voice telling me he was a moment away from running to me.

‘Yes, sorry, I didn’t mean to say that through the mind-link. Everything is fine,’ I answered quickly once my brain caught up with everything it was trying to process.

‘Fuck I almost ran in there,’ Elias breathed out. I looked up to see his hand pulling the door back to an almost closed position.

‘Evie what the hell happened?’ Cory asked.

‘I’ll explain later. I’m almost done. Get ready to look for me. It’s almost your turn Adrien.’

I quickly started backtracking and cleaning up my presence in their system. It was much quicker with this handy new gift I had, and a few minutes later, Elias shut the door behind him and teleported us back to our hiding spot. We walked toward the high roller’s room, where I could see Cory looking out the door. Relief passed through his face momentarily before he started yelling at us and dragging a somewhat dazed and stricken-looking Adrien behind him.

We were escorted toward the main area of the casino, and we waited until the driver pulled the limo around. Once inside, there was a pregnant pause before Cory finally broke it.

“Alright, what the hell happened?”

“Why don’t we get to the hotel to talk,” I suggested, not trusting the man driving us, and Cory gave me a short nod. I looked over to where Adrien was still looking like he was about to be executed. He wouldn’t look anyone in the eye and flinched when Elias tried to touch him, making the other one look concerned.

“What happened to him?” I asked, and Cory barked a laugh, trying to cover it with a cough, but not before Adrien quickly glared at him before dropping his face in his hands.
