“What are you smiling at?” James asked and pulled out his phone to check if he’d gotten one after I showed him. “Where the fuck is mine?” he pouted, then smiled when his phone dinged as he put it away. Jo’s phone dinged only seconds later.

“They probably took it with her phone and she sent it to me before she sent it to the girls,” I deduced, unable to take my eyes off the smile on Evie’s face.

We watched a random show for a few hours until Jo and I returned to the pack house to sleep.

“Are you nervous for tomorrow?” Jo asked.

"Nervous, no. As far as I’m concerned, Evie’s been my luna since birth. She was destined for it and the moment she accepted my mark, she was my luna. Tomorrow is just a party for the pack to show her they love her as much as I do. I can’t fucking wait.”

“When did you become such a sap?” he joked.

“Around the same time you did my friend. When I found my mate,” I clapped him on the back.

“Well, I can’t really argue with that, now can I? Not to the only man that knows I almost turned down my position as beta to keep my mate happy and stay in Mexico.”

“Yeah, that was a shit move, dude. It was months before the ceremony. How the fuck was I going to find a new one?”

“Hey, she took a while to say yes, man. I wasn’t leaving without my mate.”

“At least it worked out. Let’s go to bed. The sooner we sleep, the sooner we see our mates in the morning.”

Chapter Twenty-Six

Evie

After a relaxing day at the spa, we grabbed dinner and drinks before heading to the hotel. The bar and restaurant Celeste picked was relaxed, and half of it was reserved for our group, ensuring strangers weren’t walking around us. Celeste warned us that she intended this to be a late night, so I was trying to pace myself on the drinks.

“Who thinks the boys are bored and pining for us right now?” Aunt Maya asked, making everyone laugh.

“Not Lucien,” Cecilia said, doing her best not to look over her shoulder to where Lucien was sitting with the rest of the guards.

“Trust me, sweetie, if I know Lucien, he is sulking over being so close yet so far away,” Celeste laughed, waving over at the guards, who were sitting around three tables near enough to defend but far enough to give us some privacy. Not that it made a lot of difference; as the night progressed and the bottles of wine and sugary cocktails were consumed, everyone was getting louder.

I went to the bathroom, a guard following behind and standing near the entrance. A few minutes later, Bells walked in, and I couldn’t help clearing up my suspicions.

“You’re not drinking tonight?” I asked, trying to gauge her reaction.

“I’ve had like five drinks,” she laughed.

“You mean Aunt Maya’s had like five of your drinks. You’ve nursed one, then switched it with her almost empty one.” Bells’ face went beet red, and she sighed.

“You’re too damn smart for your own good,” she complained.

“Are you pregnant?” I asked her, but I didn’t expect her face to crumble the way it did. She sank on the chair next to the sink and hid her face in her hands, so I quickly dried my hands and kneeled next to her. “Is everything okay, Bells? You know you can talk to me.”

“It’s fine. Really, I’m happy. It’s just... this wasn’t the timing I wanted. I have one semester left to graduate and I’m worried Brandon won’t let me finish it. He’s already been a dick about me getting my degree. I wanted to be done before I got pregnant.”

“Are you sure that’s all?” I asked. “You can probably finish your degree online.”

“Most of my degree has been online, Evie.” Bells was quiet for a few minutes before she lifted her head, and I saw the determination in her eyes. “I’ll figure it out. I’m too close to quit now. I’m happy about my pup. I am. Spending these past few weeks with Molly has reminded me how much I love kids. Don’t tell anyone yet though, okay? I’ll tell the family before I leave, but I want tomorrow to be about you. I only found out a few days ago.”

“Your secret is safe with me, though you might want to lay off switching drinks with Aunt Maya. She’s so tiny and rarely drinks. She’s so smashed right now.”

“Yeah, I noticed,” she laughed, checking herself in the mirror, ensuring nobody tell she’d been on the verge of tears. “I’ll just sit next to you for the rest of the night.”

“No, you won’t! I would like to have that ceremony tomorrow without a hangover, thank you!”

“You can take one for the sisterhood.” We laughed on the way back to the table, and I decided it was the perfect opportunity to take a picture of the whole group. Celeste was right. It wasn’t every day that all of us women were together. Life had a way of getting in the way. Everyone, including the guards, laughed when Lucien was the first up and running toward us when I asked one of them to take a picture—anything to get closer to his mate and steal a kiss.
