“You’re in so much trouble, you know?” she warned.

“What the hell did I do?” I asked in disbelief. “You’re the one who went off half-cocked without me, scaring the bejesus out of me and all three packs, I’m sure.”

“You thought I was trying to help him,” she said, hurt shining in her eyes for a moment.

“Evie...”

“No. You fucked up, and when we get home, and after a few days of rest, it’s going to be my turn to play with the restraints.” A wicked smile formed on her face, and I gulped, my cock twitching despite the pain and exhaustion I was feeling.

“Yes, ma’am,” I answered hoarsely, and not from a dry throat this time. Evie undid my last manacle, but my legs didn’t hold me, and I dropped to the ground.

“Shit, Cory!” she said, leaning down to check on me. I tried to smile but wasn’t sure it made it to my face.

“I’m okay. I just need a second.”

Evie kissed me hard, and I managed to lift an arm to cradle her head as she did.

“I love you, Little Pokémon,” I whispered as she pulled back and rested her forehead against mine. “But I wished I could put you in a poké ball before you went and did something crazy again.”

Evie smiled, and the fire in her eyes told me I was about to hear some smart-ass response when the door behind us opened again, and I struggled up to protect her.

“Luna, we need to—” I didn’t expect to hear, much less see Traci standing there, gaping at Paolo’s body in the middle of the floor. She looked, well, honestly, terrible. There were bruises on her neck and arms. Her clothes were haphazardly on and torn. Her wrists were covered in scars. She snapped out of her surprise when Evie stood in front of me and growled possessively.

“Luna, Alpha. You need to go. Something’s happening. I need to get you out of here,” she said, motioning toward the door.

“You’re working for Tezcatlipoca?” I asked, using the wall to keep myself standing.

“No. I got picked up on my way out of the pack. I’ve been held prisoner here since then,” she explained.

“Then what are you doing now?” Evie accused, and Traci’s eyes began to water.

“I’ve been used. They let their clients do whatever they want to me because I can heal fast. But I saw them bringing you in. I—” she stepped forward, but stopped when she saw us tense. “I didn’t know evil until I came here. When the lights flickered, the manacles released me, and I killed the man on top of me. I came to get you out.”

“Why?” Evie asked, and Traci sobbed, falling to her knees before us.

“I want to go home. Please. I’ll do whatever work you want me to do. I just want to go home, where I’m safe,” she begged. I was going to say no when Evie answered instead.

“Okay, but we need to find Violet and Tori,” she said.

“Tori was on the third floor. I don’t know where they took Violet, but the owner is on the first floor, underground.”

I pushed off the wall with some difficulty, and Evie put my arm around her shoulder for support. Traci opened the door and stepped out of the room, heading to the right. We exited the room just before I saw her drop to the ground, her eyes, nose, ears and mouth bleeding as she convulsed. A woman stood in front of her, and I immediately identified her as a witch from the way her hands were moving in front of her. She started whispering again, and I turned in front of Evie, wrapping her in my arms and hoping to shield her from whatever spell was killing Traci.

I felt the blast hit my back, but instead of pain, I felt a cooling sensation radiating from the place it landed on my back, and my mal-de-ojo bracelet lit up on my wrist, the stone heating up until I groaned from the way it scorched the skin where the stone lay.

I turned around and smirked when I saw the look of disbelief on her face, and silently thanked Uncle Helios for the gift. I used the new perk of my gift, and willed the water molecules in her body to slow down until it went from liquid to solid state. The only thing I could see was the bloating under her skin as the water expanded into ice, and the way her eyes crystalized before she dropped to the ground and shattered into a hundred different pieces.

“How are you doing that?” Evie asked.

“Because you were right. Controlling the water element is awesome; every living thing on earth has water in it.” I grinned down at her. I looked over at where Traci had stopped moving, her bloody eyes staring at nothing. “Let’s get out of here before we find more long-lost pack members. We need to find Vi and Tori.”

Just as the words left my mouth, I heard someone calling my name. I sighed with relief when I saw Aunt Kassie and Uncle Lalo running toward us from around the corner with a few other warriors.

“I’m so happy you’re okay.” Uncle Lalo came and clapped me on the back, sending me tumbling to the ground. “Shit, Cory. I’m sorry. Let’s get you to Nat, yeah?”

He helped me up and was holding my weight against him as we walked. There were bodies everywhere, though I hadn’t heard any fighting. When I looked at Uncle Lalo, he shrugged.

“Perk of hanging out with the vampire queen. She compelled them and made the work really fucking easy,” he explained.
