‘Bright and early. I’ll bring you breakfast, Evie. Good night.’

‘Good night.’

I felt the mind-link end, and I groaned and pulled the covers off. I needed a cold shower after that.

I got up early the next morning and went to work, nervous to see Cory after our conversation last night and horny as hell. It took me forever to sleep, and then I was plagued with dreams of my sexy alpha all night.

Plagued or blessed? Tozi asked, her tail wagging, making me roll my eyes.

My heart sank when James walked in with Jo this morning; no Cory in sight. Did he regret what we did and wanted to keep away until the spell wore off? I was panicking internally but walked out to meet them when James called me over with a hand gesture.

“Cory sent breakfast. We were coming out this way, but your dad called him into the office for something urgent,” he said, handing me a container of steaming hot chilaquiles and beans.

“I snuck you some, too, Zi,” James called out when she walked over to us.

“Snuck? Is this not pack food?” Zi asked, opening the container and inhaling deeply. Jo looked at us weirdly.

“What?” I asked.

“You think the pack house chef cooked this?” he asked.

“Well, who else?” Zi asked, digging in. She went a little red from the spice, but she’d been getting used to spicy food quickly.

“Cory’s cooked all the food we’ve brought you,” James said.

“Cory? Cory knows how to cook?” I asked skeptically.

“Yeah, he gets up early every morning and cooks all of us breakfast. He says it relaxes him. He bakes too,” Jo explained.

“Damn, he’s a good cook,” Zi said, making James nod.

“Luna Celeste taught us all to cook. She said the best way to impress a girl is to show that we can take care of them. It’s part of our beasts to want to provide, so we all learned,” James answered.

“You cook too? Like this?” Zi asked.

“Well, not as often, but I’m not bad at it,” James said, and I think this was the first time I’d seen him blush under the impressed gaze of a woman. A sudden idea popped into my head.

“Maybe you can come show Zi how to make a few dishes. She’s been fawning over Cory’s food, thinking it was made by the kitchens. She was going to ask the kitchen staff to teach her,” I said. I thought Zi might choke on her food, but she managed to swallow her food, and to my surprise, she nodded at me.

“That would be nice. I make the same stuff over and over,” she said shyly.

Was she blushing, or did she need some water to tamp down the heat of the food? I wondered.

“Sure! Just give me a day and what you want to learn. I’m happy to help,” James replied, and if Zi wasn’t in love with him already, she definitely fell head first when he added, “There’s lots of stuff we can make with Molly, too.”

‘Close your mouth before your food falls out, and it would be a shame to waste it,’ I teased her when the boys turned to look somewhere else. She glared at me for a moment before she smiled when James turned and handed her water.

“Thank you,” she thanked him, blushing.

“We’ll let you get to work. We just wanted to bring that over so Cory wouldn’t pout all day. Make sure to tell him we delivered it, yeah?” Jo directed his question my way. I nodded, fighting to make sure they couldn’t hear the way my heart was trying to soar out of my mouth, so I stuffed it with food instead.

They went to leave when Jo stopped again. “We got an email from Miguel. Everyone is being recalled home because of the attack. He wanted to get all the cousins that haven’t left with their mates and have a get-together when Xochil gets back, so make sure you save your change over the next week. He said you’re not allowed to duck out again.”

I grinned and nodded.

“Hey, can Zi come?” I asked before they left.

“Of course, Molly, too. Meli has been dying to meet her,” Jo answered.
