“Odson can wait.” Sten strode toward the shelves she’d seen him at before.

She joined him, perusing the titles. Marli gasped, pulling one from the shelf, running her palm over the embossed title. “We have a copy of this one in our own library. And these.” Her finger drifted along the spines of a collection.

Sten moved closer to peer at the titles she pointed out. Her breath hitched at his proximity.

She turned her back to the shelf, cradling the book she still held. “I’ve read this one so many times. It has all the old stories of dragon heroes and heroines from ancient times.”

He glanced down at the book, then into her eyes. “Your eyes light up when you come in here.”

“Do they?” She held her breath as his eyes roamed her face.

He nodded, leaning a little closer. “Your whole face does, too.”

He stood so close that she had to ease back against the shelf, her head leaning on the leather bound spines, while looking up at him. “What makes you light up?”

He paused, his gaze suddenly turning very intense. Smiling, he said, “Beautiful women with luminous caramel eyes and wild hair that love dusty libraries.” He braced his hands on the shelves above her head.

“It’s not dusty in here,” she murmured, lost, as he leaned closer.

His lips descended toward hers.

She rose on tiptoe to meet him.

One hand still clutched the book to her chest, the other grasped his shirt, pulling him closer to her as desire scorched through her veins.

She wanted him.

He didn’t touch her except with his lips.

She wanted more.

Opening to him, his tongue slid across the tip of hers, teasing.

She let go of his shirt, her hand finding purchase on his nape, anchoring him in place as she rose to meet him.

He still didn’t touch her.

“May I be of service?” The librarian’s voice broke the spell, drawing her attention.

“No,” she snapped.

“No,” Stenlen said, holding her gaze, his own eyes now alight as he smiled down at her. “I have exactly what I came for.” He pulled a book from the shelf next to her head.

She released her grip on his neck, snatching her hand back as though he’d scalded her.

Her cheeks flamed. “Rogue,” she muttered, and slithered her way out of the space she’d been only too happy to make even smaller just seconds before.

His chuckle followed her out of the library.

Chapter 12

Sten swaggered along behind Marli, enjoying the view of her luscious ass. He no longer had any doubt that he’d get her into bed. And soon.

After days of hedging and watching, he’d learned to give her space, pretending to ignore her.

In reality, it had been a challenge to focus on the research they were supposed to be doing in favor of fantasizing about how he was going to enjoy her charms.

The two books he had taken a serious interest in were Dragon Etiquette—after Kymri had alluded that that existed—and Intimate Dragon Relations, which detailed dragon physiology and mating traditions. Most of it was bullshit, but he could see how it might be effective.
