She glanced up at him. Heat warmed her cheeks under his praise. “Thanks.”

They continued on until they reached the door to her room. “Seeing you in flight again reminded me of that first time we met.”

She turned, lifting a brow. “Seeing you naked also reminded me of that first time.”

He gave a short laugh, scratching at his temple with his thumb. “Ehm, well, that’s not what I was referring to.”

“Your flying was pretty impressive, too.” She smiled up at him, reaching out to smooth the collar of his shirt. “Are you coming in?”

His dark eyes flicked between her face and the door.

He frowned as he considered his words.

“Sorry,” she blurted. “Just forget that. Not appropriate. Didn’t happen.” She turned to go into her room, but he caught her arm.

“I’d like to, but I need to say something first.”

She swallowed, studying his face. Since she’d been there, she’d never seen him so… solemn? Unsure?

She bit her lip, breath held.

His throat worked, and he licked his lips before he spoke. He lifted his eyes and held her gaze.

Direct, raw, honest.

“I-uhm. I’m sorry we were so relentless in pursuing you. Three males, each more than twice your size. That had to have been harrowing for you. And… also that we attacked your home. Everything you fought to defend, to protect, is upside down and at risk because of us—me. Because of me.”

Speechless, heart racing, she nodded and drew a slow breath. “Thank you, Stenlen.”

“I just thought you should hear that from me.” He turned to go, but she caught his hand this time.

His fingers were warm and strong. He didn’t pull away. Looking down at their joined hands, he slid his fingers along hers.

She shivered and inhaled his scent. “You smell nice.”

He leaned closer, as though drawn by the intake of her breath. “I thought you said we stank.” The corner of his lips lifted as he drew ever nearer.

“Funk. This place has a funk. But not you.”

“No?” His lips were inches from hers.

Her pulse stammered. It was like the library all over again.

“You’re very hygienic,” she murmured.

Reaching behind her, she turned the door handle so that it swung open.

He didn’t glance at it. He dipped his head close to her collarbone, a breath from her skin. Sten inhaled, slow and steady, along the crook of her shoulder and up along her neck, stopping just below her ear. “I like how you smell, too.”

Oh, dear goddess!

She shivered with a gasp as moisture soaked her panties and her nipples peaked.

Dragonsdammit, he was so hot and he made her scorch… he hadn’t even touched her.

“Do you want to talk?” his lips ghosted hers, just the heat of him glided along the sensitive flesh.

“Talking is okay,” she whispered.
