She sighed and smiled. “Mine.”

“Yours,” he agreed, claiming her mouth. “Always.”

“Always,” she gasped as he pumped faster. “Always.” She moaned as she came, gripping him hard within her as he thrust several more times, finding his own release.

“Marli,” he growled into her mouth as his tongue found hers as he surged into her.

Her arms encircled his wide shoulders, taking all of him, holding him closer to her heart than anyone she’d ever held before.

And knowing that this time, it would last.

Black River

Brandt Homestead

Marli smiled up at Heidi as she set the coffee cup on the table in front of her. “You’re still my favorite hero.”

Heidi returned the smile as she took her seat next to Odson. “Elora, it’s so good to see you again after all this time—you too, Jonathan. And congratulations on the little one coming. You’re going to love being grandparents.” She reached across the table to squeeze Elora’s hand. “Alright, I know this isn’t strictly a social call, so catch me up. This is Stenlen, whom I’ve heard a lot about?”

Sten scratched his temple with his thumb, looking at Marli. “Yeah, I’m sure you have.”

“And you’re here in one piece, so that’s also a good sign,” Heidi winked at him.

Odson sipped his coffee. “Sten is a chief member of Jori’s council. And as such, he and Marli are working on outreach together on behalf of both tribes.”

“And what does that look like?” Heidi wrapped her hands around her cup.

“Well, we have a lot of bridges to build.”

Odson grunted.

“Friendship,” Elora said.

“Mhmm. Sounds like the dragons are looking for allies? That means trouble.”

“For everyone,” Odson said.

“We can go over the details tomorrow. For now we’re all here as ambassadors. Now that things are stable at Katoa Koro, Jori wishes to offer it as a home to anyone that needs it.”

“The camp and the drifters?” Heidi’s brows went up. “That’s wonderful, and—”

“Complicated. Yeah.”

Heidi laughed. “An idealist. He’s definitely your son. What’s Katoa Koro?”

“We voted on a new name for our home,” Sten said. “It means ‘Whole Hearted’.”

“Voted? He knows he’s a king, right?”

“Yes, but not really,” Elora laughed.

“Katoa Koro is an excellent name for a mountain dragon lair.”

“They were a scale’s breath away from naming it Dragon-Man-Cave,” Odson lifted his cup, eyes twinkling.

Heidi threw back her head, laughing, “They weren’t!”
