A blush of pink creeps into her cheeks. “It was…” She pauses and ponders her words. “It wasn’t bad. It was kind of…fun? Can I say that?” She gazes up at me through her long lashes.

My expression turns quizzical. “Well, I can’t say I expected to hear that from you.”

She eyes me coyly. “I guess I probably worried too much about it.”

I smirk. “Ok, who are you, and what did you do with Sophie?”

She giggles but continues to watch me with a set of playful eyes that I’m not used to. “It was a sweet scene, right? The ‘I love you’s’ and all that. It was kind of special, living that for a moment.”

I watch her silently for a few seconds, trying to understand her curious response.

“I don’t know.” She shrugs. “I liked it, I guess.”

She doesn’t drop my gaze, but there is a call from the hallway, telling us that they’re ready to begin the next scene.

Tearing my eyes from her, I stand up without a word. I run my hand through my hair, trying to appear casual as we make our way back to the stage in silence. It’s out of character for her to admit something like that. Should I have responded? Did she want me to respond? What kind of reaction was she expecting?

Was she trying to tell me that she’s interested? In what? In sex? With me? The thought elicits a twist of arousal in my core.

No, it was the emotion, the sweetness of the scene that she pointed out. That’s different, right?

My arousal does not subside.

I watch the waves of her hair graze her shoulders as she walks in front of me. Out of her view, I let out an inaudible sigh, realizing how badly I still want her.

When we come around the corner, Maureen is there, clutching a pile of papers to her chest and beaming at me. I nod and try to walk past her.

“Kai, are you ok?” she asks, falling in step next to me.

“We’re not rehearsing your scenes today, Maureen.” I remind her, averting my gaze.

“Oh, I know,” she replies happily. “I’m just picking up my script for tomorrow. How has this morning been?”

I stop briefly when we’re out of Sophie’s earshot. “It’s been fine, why?”

“Oh, I just know the love scenes are often the most draining and awkward.” She pauses. “I know from experience.”

I blink at her, unamused. “As do I.”

She twirls a strand of her hair around her fingers, tilting her head as she watches me. “You seem on edge.”

I am.

“I’m not.” I set my jaw.

“You know…” she begins, eyeing me mischievously. “I’ve found that a little practice goes a long way to take the edge off.”

I stare at her, unmoving. Is she suggesting what I think she’s suggesting?

She bites her lip and winks.

Yes, yes, she is.

“I have to…uh, get back on the stage.” I clear my throat, nodding down the hall.

“Sure, Kai.” She smiles and takes a step back, pressing her lipstick-red lips together. “See you tomorrow.”

I crease my brow as she turns and leaves me alone. Is everyone flirting with me today, or am I just that horny?
