Elioth smiled and said softly, “Describe it if you can.”

She closed her eyes and described what she saw.

A court full of dragon shifters in a temple-styled palace. Everywhere there are dragons speaking softly and humans serving, wearing collars and chains.

Distantly, she heard, “What are the clothes like?”

Gauze, jewels, gems, and gold chains. Everywhere is gilded, and blood is high.

“Who is in charge?”

A white-haired queen on a cut crystal throne. At her side is a dark-haired king, but she is the one that the others are speaking to. He is standing guard over her.

“Is she pregnant?”

No, but she is very sad.

“Where are you?”

I am to the left of the throne, so I can see everyone. It’s a full space, and everyone is waiting for something. Oh, no. They pulled weapons. They should not have weapons.

Kana came out of the memory with a gasp. “They died. I died.”

Elioth was typing frantically and said, “You were still a lava dragon?”

“I was. It felt like me.” She put a hand to her head.

Kabyl asked, “What is it?”

“Uh, the last thing I remember was a flash and then pain in my skull.”

Kabyl rubbed Kana’s shoulders. “Are you all right?”

“Yeah. Do either of you know what that was?”

Elioth smiled. “Flash of a previous life. It doesn’t happen often in the general population, but the soul of a dragon tends to remain within the species.”

Kana looked at him. “In that case, my soul should have gotten into the mix before this. Shouldn’t it? That scene feels recent.”

Elioth nodded and got up, getting a huge tome. He brought it to the table and opened it to a specific page. “The shattering of Babylon.”

Kana read the page and sat back. “So, the queen made it.”

“Yes. It was the first generation after the djinn’s curse. You were all old-style dragons. You didn’t have armour, but the queen—Shreetha—was the first diamond queen. The attackers didn’t survive the assault, and many of the courtiers died. The queen’s guard were among the fatalities.” Kana read. “The three dragons were buried in state, and small cults sprang up around the world to worship them in their defense of the first diamond queen. Huh.” She frowned. “I wonder if my sisters are going to wake with the same memory.”

Kabyl blinked. “Sisters?”

“Two other tanks were found with mine. I decanted first. The other two are still getting ready to join the world.” She smiled. “They are in good hands.”

Kabyl stated, “I am going to notify Trin about this. I think she and Brommin are going to have to do some research. It’s his favourite thing next to her.”

Elioth chuckled, then he inhaled and started to send message after message.

Kabyl snorted. “And he loves that thing more than anything.”

“Not true, my frosty princess.” He leaned over and kissed her cheek. Elioth went off to his office.

Kana smiled. “I am going to go for my morning run.”
