“Can I see the histories where the information appears?”

“Certainly, but as you do so, I am still going to quiz you on volcanology.”

“Okay.”

They spent the rest of the morning with her reading about that horrible day in dragon history.

Finally, she asked, “Where did the tombs end up? They haven’t come up in several centuries.” She perked up. “Are they in a museum?”

Kabyl came in. “Eltrinia can help look for any records or artifacts. She and the curator have a knack for things of that nature. Do you want to see your body?”

“No. It isn’t my body. This is my body. I just want to learn about the societies that took care of the fallen. You can tell a lot about people by what is around them and how you handle your dead.”

Elioth nodded. “That’s true. My people bind the bodies to trees, and our trees take them in. If a tree will not take you in, you are either still alive or rejected by nature.”

Kana looked at the elf. “How many of your people are there?”

“We live in small towns and integrate now and then. I would guess there were a few hundred thousand of us around the world.” He shrugged.

“The audio education and books I was given after I was out just talk about elves as mythical. If you were hiding... why are you here?”

Elioth smiled. “My mate called to me.”

Kabyl smirked. “That would have been me. Also, his people sent him up here. We went through peacekeeper training and are now pretty good at the whole partnership thing.”

Kana watched as the couple kissed quickly. She laughed and watched them interacting with affection. She had read about affection and romance, but Eltrinia warned her against that kind of thing. It was something to be eased into, and if a potential partner couldn’t understand that she was only a few months old and looked like an adult but didn’t have emotional maturity, she should burn him and walk away.

It did look nice.

Kabyl looked at her and caught her interested gaze. “Oh, sorry, Kana. My father tends to try and interfere, so we make the most of all privacy.”

“It does not bother me. I will have to deal with it eventually.” She smiled. “Just not yet.”

Kabyl blinked. “Oh. Right. I forget how young you are.”

Kana smiled. “Eltrinia says it will be a problem for a while but that I will know when it is time to take a personal interest.”

There was a chime, and Elioth got up and headed into the office.

Kabyl nodded. “How are you feeling about staying here for a while?”

“Fine.”

“What would you feel if you had to cross an ocean to go to one of those volcanoes?”

“Excited, but I am guessing you would not be with me.”

“No. This place needs us. The dogs need us.”

Kana nodded. “You are right. Any training today?”

“No, I think a day off is earned. Besides, the dogs are going crazy in that run you made them.”

Kana smiled. “I am glad they are having fun with it.”

“Yeah, I let them out in shifts so that we have an operational team if we need it.”

Kana blinked. “Oh. Right. I hadn’t thought of that.”
