Kana nodded and saw all kinds of documents, including a family tree. “I have relatives?”

Trin inclined her head. “Once you are completely trained, we can ask them if they want to make your acquaintance. Don’t be disappointed if they don’t. No one was expecting you.”

Kana grinned. “Eltrinia was.”

“My sister is a law unto herself. Right, we shouldn’t take up any more of these good gentlemen’s time. Will, thank you; Matt, a pleasure as always.” Trin inclined her head.

The men bowed as a set, and Kana bowed in return. “Nice meeting you, Matt, Will. I will send my sisters here when they appear.”

The gentlemen looked puzzled, but they smiled and said in unison, “Thank you, please come again.”

Kana smiled as she heard one say, “Jinx.” The other said, “Hugs.” And she was back in the bright light of the afternoon.

It was time to meet her tutor.

Chapter Three

Trin handed her an atlas. “Here, study this. We have to wait for Eltrinia to return. Your tutor isn’t exactly local.”

“Where is she from?”

Trin flipped through a few pages and pointed to an area that was covered in white on the map. “Here.”

“Oh.” She looked across the continent and up the other coastline to a mountain range that looked inhospitable. There were tiny dots that were towns or villages, but none of them had names on this map.

“So, I will be transported to her?”

“In the way only Eltrinia or the djinn can manage. It would be nice if Kabyl could teleport, but she can’t, so this is better for everyone. Would you care for some tea?” Trin smiled.

“Um, please.”

Trin walked across the room and pulled a bell twice.

They were back in the Wheel of the centre of the capital as Trin had mentioned that the senate got really nervous if she was out of visual range for too long.

It was four minutes before the doors opened, and a man came in with a tray balanced on one hand. Trin grinned. “Vasic, I didn’t think you would be on the end of that call.”

He snorted. “The others are all terrified to come in here once it was known that you have an untrained adult female dragon with unknown capabilities.”

Trin grinned and followed him to the table. “Kana, this is the senator’s personal secretary and husband of my friend, father to my goddaughter, Vasic Tal. Vasic, this is the first of the three sleepers. This is my cousin, Kana Pyrar Lem.”

Vasic poured two cups of tea and made a minute adjustment to the placement of a cookie. “We are going with cousin?”

“We are. They were made at the same place that Eltrinia was, and as she is my sister, they are my cousins.”

Vasic nodded. “I will inform Creata that she has more holiday cards to mail out.”

Trin chuckled and brought Kana a cup of tea. “Don’t worry. The paper that she sends it on is mostly fabric, so it doesn’t burn, but if you crumple it enough, it makes a nice handkerchief.”

Vasic snorted and then smoothed his features. “If that is all?”

Trin went and got her own tea. “Thanks, Vasic.”

“Good day to you, Madame Lem.” He bowed formally, winked, and said, “Amysthet’s birthday is coming up. Please expect an invitation to the party.”

He looked over to Kana. “And you as well, Miss Lem. Now that you are family, you will also receive invitations. If you are unable to attend, you can politely decline. No offense will be taken.”

Kana nodded. “Thank you, Mr. Tal. It is nice that everyone is so inclusive. From my readings, strangers are not always greeted so kindly.”
