He straightened, rolling his shoulders and glared back at her. “Of course not.”

Her chin lifted in disbelief. Expectation.

She was beautiful, feet planted, body rigid, fierce, still she waited.

And she was his most immediate way off this island.

He put his fish down on a flat rock by the fire pit then strode to the equipment boxes.

Flipping open the first one, he pulled out a camera.

“Show me what it does.”

“I can’t. None of it works properly here, just like my navigation won’t work; that got me stuck here in the first place.”

She considered this. “Explain its function.”

“It’s a camera, for taking pictures to document the journey.”

She nodded.

He replaced it in the case, then opened the next one, laptop, satellite phone, personal phone, drives etc... Opening the other cases, another camera, communications, navigation, various other pieces of equipment required for traveling distances.

“All of this equipment is to document this myth you are chasing. To then share with the world.”

He clicked the locks shut on the last case and turned to face her.

“If these myths you’re chasing are real, what would you do if they don’t want to be announced to the world?”

“Doesn’t the world have the right to know the truth?”

“To what purpose?”

“It’s the truth.”

“To what end? What happens when the world finds out about this myth of yours and the world decides they need to come and see it, too. And what happens when they decide this myth is dangerous and come to destroy it?”

This was just supposed to be an adventure, like chasing the Loch Ness monster or Big Foot. A journey to honor his mother. A project to launch his career and land notoriety.

When he didn’t respond she walked away... taking the fish with her.

Kymri left Jori standing alone in his little camp. By the time she reached her tree trunk stash, she realized she was still holding the fish. With a sigh, she finished eating it. No sense in wasting.

She stripped down, stuffed the clothing and knife in the hole and headed to the water.

He was a dragons-damned treasure hunter. She had known he was too good to be true. Should have let him drown in his stupid little plane. It would have been such a waste of all that lean muscle and amazing hair, though. She couldn’t stop watching his hands and lips as he ate, imagining he was plucking and nibbling at her.

She almost wished he did have contraband or weapons. This journey he was on was far more dangerous to her people.

So why didn’t she destroy him and his equipment on the spot?

Or shift and give him a taste of the legend he’s looking for?

The image of him alone in the water pleasuring himself under the starlight slid into her mind. The broad shoulders, muscular arms, defined chest, narrow hips and long strong legs built for carrying a woman around, image. Desire spiked through her body even in her dragon form.

This wasn’t good.

Not good at all.
