They’d waited far too long to find their lair.

Maybe there was only one dragon—like the last time they managed to trap one?

No, where there was one, there were more. They stayed glued together like hens, and he would swallow them all up.

Excitement rippled through him.

He heard the growls coming from behind him. They had scented her too, edging them forward, the instinct to pursue driving at them.

The scent grew stronger, it wouldn’t be long.

He realized they were traveling in an arc, no matter, they’d follow it. Around and around, it pulled them in a massive spiral, an orbit.

He could feel it in his scales and ridges.

They were circling something important. The queen? Would they be so lucky?

He snuffed and angled his wings in tighter then signaled his wing men to fan out.

She was close...

A small dark form in the distance appeared and he knew it wasn’t a bird. Good.

So fucking good.

He could barely contain the rush.

How long had it been since they’d had females? Real females, not the weak human ones. Genuine dragon females that could take a real dragon man.

They couldn’t hide from them anymore. It was time for them to return to accept their places under the guidance of male dragons. Reunite the sexes of the species.

Up ahead, the little dragoness veered away from the trajectory she’d originally been flying in.

She must have sighted or sensed them.

She was trying to lead them away from her treasure island.

Go for the island, or go for her?

He made the decision to pursue her. They could make her talk without them having to spend wasted hours flying over the ocean. She could tell them exactly where the rest of them were.

Just a little patience. And a little intimidation — but only if she made it necessary.

He growled and his wingmen banked as they all three drove forward.

They’d drive her down into the ocean if they had to. They wouldn’t be leaving this region without her. She was too valuable.

Stenlen’s chest thumped with adrenaline, his lips pulling back over his teeth as they drove her on.

After a while, her speed lagged, her altitude dipped, and she changed directions to coast on the wind current.

She was almost spent.

The smell of land washed over him.

She was going for the islands. It didn’t matter.

They weren’t going to let her escape them.
