“What’s the matter,Theikos?Getting slow from all those nights at the brothel?”
I couldn’t hide my low growl of satisfaction. Both at her use of my surname and her little display of jealousy. She’d never been very good at hiding it. And I fucking loved it.
“Maybe I am. And maybe that little rag is all I need to keep me from going back. It would honestly be selfish of you to keep it from me.”
She cackled with laughter as I lunged for her again, and our chase began. Those had warmth and relief blossoming in my chest. And thanks to said laughter and her only half-assed attempt to get away, I closed in on her, pulling her against me with one arm, gripping her wrist with the other, and bringing it to my face. She squealed in both horror and delight.
“Malekai!”
“Such a greedy female,” I teased before biting down on the handkerchief, yanking it from her hand with a jerk of my head. I pinned her freehand down at her side and held my prize aloft.
The balled-up cloth unfurled, revealing the clear goo of her snot. I hummed my delight as she gasped in horror.
I didn’t hesitate a second more before I palmed the thing and licked it from top to bottom. Mareina faked a gag in between laughter.
“Oooh… Salty and… kind of refreshing.”
She shook her head at me with wide eyes, still beaming a mile wide.
Worth it.
“You are…”
“Wonderful? Devastatingly handsome? Irresistible?” I finished for her, stuffing the napkin into my pocket.
She laughed, eyebrows raised in disbelief.“Insane.”
I chuckled smugly. “For you? Always.”

Forty-Nine
MALEKAI
As our laughter faded, she wrapped her arms around my waist and buried her face in my chest. The sound of her inhaling my scent deeply sent my heart tumbling and my nose-diving into the crook of her neck, filling my lungs with her precious scent. Savouring it all the more. Who knew how long it would be before it twined with his?
“So, Queen, huh?”
She huffed. “We’ll see, I guess.”
I couldn’t help the smile that curled the corner of my mouth.
Queen.
Mareina would undoubtedly be the best Atratus had ever seen. Her strength and valor, paired with her life experience and compassion… She would be a just ruler. Something that I’d never even bothered to consider a possibility. The realm would be a better place with her ruling one of its Kingdoms.
Not to mention…
“You’ll look fucking stunning in a crown and gown.”
She gave a sad chuckle. “You make it sound like it’s a guarantee.”
All humor left me. “… Mareina, I’ll be right there with you to ensure Zurie’s fucking dead as a doornail.”
“She’s literally the most powerful fae in the Kingdom… If not the realm.”
I scoffed inwardly.
