The same male who was willing to task you with killing the most powerful fae in the realm. Even if it was only because of the amount of aetra she consumed.

Miroslav returned in the next breath, Nakoa’solana kah’heiin tow. My heart pounded so loudly it echoed in my ears as my gaze drifted over the group of them. Every face is tight with worry.

Where the fuck was he?

My eyes darted back to Miroslav, whose normally relaxed brow was drawn together, his sharp jaw flexing.

Before the words could even leave my mouth, low and behold, Nakoa appeared. With a strikingly beautiful female dressed in an equally stunning gown that left far too little to the imagination. My gaze narrowed between the two of them as rage and jealousy twisted through me, further priming me to unleash whatever it was that I could feel building up inside of me like a fucking volcano.

Nakoa’s eyesburnedwith murderous intent when they settled on me.

“Did you know?”

I steeled myself for his onslaught.

“Yes.”

I could feel the heat of hisolana kah’hei’sstares. Their eyes darted between us with confusion. Nakoa looked like he wanted nothing more than to remove my head from my body. And part of me wanted him to fucking try.

Maleki shifted to step in front of me just as Nakoa’s tail lashed out for my neck. Malekai’s sword appeared, nothing more than a flash of steel. The bottom third of Nakoa’s tail hit the polished stone floor with a wet slap.

A chorus of gasps rang out, and Nakoa’s eyes widened at the sight of his mutilated tail. His face contorted into a rictus of rage as he launched himself at Malekai, sword in hand.

I could have cackled with laughter.

Oh no, no, no.

My body shoved Malekai out of the way as I raised my own sword to meet Nakoa’s. The sound echoed with the clang of our clashing blades, and I shoved him backwards with a burst of strength and power that surprised even me. Deep scarlet tendrils of magic seeped out from beneath my skin as Iwilledhim frozen in place. I could feel his magic hammering against mine, but it was a useless endeavor.

All four of my wings burst from their glamor. Every muscle in my body trembled with barely restrained rage as my mind oscillated between unleashing it and just letting it all burn.

He’s your soulbound. He’s your soulbound. He’s your soulbound, some distant voice in my mind chanted.

Nakoa’s eyes were wide with shock, as though he were truly seeing me for the first time.

Distantly, I could hear andfeelother magic outside of Nakoa's, warring against my own. In my peripheral, I could see the silhouettes of the others battling against the shield my magic had instinctively drawn up.

“I should have killed you when I had the chance,”he rasped, his black eyes filled with hatred.

Something deep within me fractured, and my magicdetonated.

MALEKAI

Never in my life had I ever experienced such an intense level of terror as I had when blood sprayed across the interior of Mareina’s barrier. She’d collapsed to the ground, drenched in blood.

For those initial moments, I thought…

Gods…

With a still shaking hand, I swiped away another tear.

PraiseAkash, it had only been that dickhead of a soulbound of hers.

Though he had survived.
