It had been 600 years since I’d had to truly wield it. On no one other than the fucking plague of a female before me.

“You’re going to die, and then I’m going to bind your soul to thekasma ostyrauntil this universe is consumed byAkashherself.”

Kasma Ostyra.

The Chasm Doorway.

It was a place where not even light could survive. A gaping hole in the very fabric of this universe, leading from this one to another. It remained unknown which realms laid beyond it. No one dared to get close to it. Anything that did was sucked in and disappeared. We only knew that it ledsomewherebecause as much as it consumed anything in its vicinity, it radiated a soul-shuddering magic.

Magic that not even us deities understood or had ever seen before. It was entirely somethingother.

If I bound Keres’ soul to its horizon, she would spend an eternity being torn to shreds.

Instead of fear, only sadness is shown in her expression. The fury normally burning in her eyes extinguished.

“Then you’ll be stuck here with me.”

My rage burned so brightly that divine fire sprang to life over my hands and along the blade of my sword. Perhaps I’d let her burn to ashes over and over for the rest of eternity if we were stuck in this realm together.

Shewilledthe pythos containing that fragment of my soul into her hand, nodding in the direction of the river.

“Drink… And I’ll free you.”

My breathing stilled.

“Unless you’d prefer to live in agony for all of eternity. Which would be no less than you deserve.”

Hope burst to life, bright and nourishing. Only one thing gave me pause… If I drank from The River Oblivion… I’d forget my daughter… My precious daughter that was… destined forsomuch. It was why we had sent her away from here, and it had nearly fucking killed me. I couldn’t abandon her like that. And I’d only just found her again…

“If you think of your daughter, you needn’t worry.”

Every muscle in my body went taut, primed with rage.

“If you think to harm her, I would gladly suffer eternity to prevent it. And spend all of it peeling your skin from your fucking flesh. If you think I would grow bored of such an endeavor, let me remind you that I ameasilyentertained, sister.”

She huffed a bored laugh.

“I have no desire to harm her. She is my blood, after all. The daughter ofmy soulbound.”

What a shame my glare couldn’tactuallyburn a hole through her wretched form.

“As you well know, she has a long and violent journey ahead of her… Perhaps you could even help her… If you’re free to roam the realm, that is.”

“Speak plainly, witch.”

“Vow to not seek out mysoulbound?—

“She’s not your soul?—

Keres roared to life, her fast flushed with fury.

“And you made damn sure of that, didn’t you!”

She… had a point.

I remained silent.

Keres drew in a calming breath before continuing.
