He dropped his head, his breathing heavy.

The fire crackled and snapped as fat dripped down from the cooking meat.

When he lifted his head, he only whispered. “I can’t be sure until I meet her, but I think, based on what you said, that this Holden woman might be related to me. Perhaps even my brother’s child. We sent him to Earth to jump-start the prophecy, which now is in motion. Universa hold a bit of every species inside their DNA. And we often have abilities like being able to understand and speak with various races. When you leave this world, I would like to go with you.”

Lexi gave me an inquiring look, and I raised my eyebrows in response. I couldn’t see any issue with him tagging along.

She turned back. “Sure. We will tell Stet about you. He is the Peace Guardian and is the one to decide if you can come to Earth with us.”

He exhaled. “Thank you.”

He paused for a moment, reaching over to turn the spit. Grease fell to the fire below it, spitting and sizzling as the aroma filled our cave.

“You need to understand something about this book. It is called the Korchamen, and it is the written word and law of the Universa. All the prophecies since time began are recorded in it. Including the greatest threat which is happening now. My Malen tasked me with carrying it with me so we wouldn't lose it. Only one outside the Universa should read it. And it is The Oracle.”

The capitalization of the words was clear to us. He was talking about a specific individual. Similar to Lark being The Gatekeeper.

He turned and gazed at me. “I believe your mate might be that one.”

I frowned, trying to understand what he was saying. “The… What?”

“The Oracle needs to study this book and comprehend its writings. To use it to help others and to guide the universes through this time of upheaval until we reach peace on the other side.” He made a frustrated gesture. “It is hard to explain if you are not one of them.”

Lexi came to my defense. “Well, Soren is the next best thing. He is the oracle’s energy battery.”

Tamerin’s mouth dropped open as he stared at me.

Fuck, why had she told him that? And… what did it mean to this man?

Chapter Four

Lily

A house that reminded me of Alemos sat at the top of the hill.

I felt a little disappointed. I mean, Apollo was a god. Why wouldn’t he have a huge elaborate mansion with roman columns and tons of nubile women running around half nude? Isn't that what the stories portrayed?

Instead, this was just a house—massive and well maintained, but nothing I would expect a deity to live in.

A man stepped out onto the porch, waiting for us to come closer. He was tall, with blond hair pulled back into a low ponytail that reached his shoulders. His eyes were a midnight blue—much darker than his two henchmen's—and his lips formed a perfect pink bow. He was beautiful in a masculine way, but something about him repelled me.

“Welcome, little oracle! Welcome to your new home!” His words boomed out, as if he was on stage.

I pouted, shooting a sour glance his way. “I didn’t ask to come here, asshat. You kidnapped me as I was on my way to visit Artemis.”

Damn! I guess I have been hanging around Lexi too much. Still, what I said had been warranted. He had taken me against my will.

A flicker of anger shone in his eyes as he glanced between Octavius and Samuel. Then it was gone, his eyes going back to me, the smile still on his lips.

“What are you saying? Are you not an oracle?”

“I am,” I grudgingly admitted.

“And I am Apollo, the leader of all the oracles.” He nodded once, his hands splayed with his palms up as if to state 'Isn't this obvious?'. “This means you are under my authority and not my sister, Artemis.”

I cocked my head. “Except I'm a lycanthrope. A shifter. A wolf shifter.” I emphasized the wolf part, making sure he understood I was a predator and not prey. I knew she protected all shifters.

He frowned, pursing his lips. Studying me, his blue eyes darkened almost to black as they met my own.
