How rude!

Well, he was a god, so I figured he could listen in on my thoughts. This is my fight…

Apollo rushed over and pointed one finger into my face, jabbing it between my eyes without touching my skin. “Will. You. Just. Shut. Up!”

Jeez! He was about to stab my eyes out! Leaning back, I made the motion of zipping my mouth closed. Of course, I had no way to make a vocal sound since he had already silenced me, but that didn't matter. I was signaling my agreement to the asshole.

"Well, if it helps, I think she got most of the lyrics wrong," Samuel interjected, his tone wry.

Apollo sighed, stepping away from me and turning to face his desk. He took several large breaths, those broad shoulders expanding and contracting, before he walked around it and sat in his chair.

Big guy. I think I liked my Soren better with his fit swimmer’s body. He didn’t make me feel as petite by standing next to me.

“I can see you are going to be a thorn in my side. Why are all the oracles with the most potential so difficult?” He lamented.

No one answered him. His men were too wise to answer a rhetorical question, and I still had no way to speak.

He sighed once more and waved a hand. “I need to talk with you. But if you sing one more nonsensical song, I will take your voice for the rest of the day.”

I nodded, clearing my throat. And there. That bad boy was back. Not that any of my songs were silly. They were all top quality music on Earth.

Apollo gave me a meaningful glare. You know the one—the dad stare. Which almost caused me to giggle because I couldn't imagine him as a father in any scenario.

I grinned at him, getting comfortable in the chair they had put me in. Damn, this seat was fine! I pulled up my legs and squirmed my butt around so I could curl up in it, facing him.

“Ready?” he asked dryly.

I nodded. Nope, wouldn’t talk. He would have to force me to.

He looked up at Samuel, and the man left the room like an obedient little bodyguard. Octavius stayed standing right behind me. I could almost feel the bastard's breaths against the top of my head.

Raising my eyebrows at the god, I waited.

He remained quiet until his flunky returned, carrying a bottle of water, which he handed to me.

I checked that bottle over like I was getting it from a drug dealer. Not seeing any pin prick holes, I made sure the cap was still sealed. Huh. Guess no one had tampered with it. I cracked it open and sniffed the contents as my ultimate check.

“What in the hell is she doing?” Octavius mumbled from behind me.

“It appears that humans are not very trusting of the gods anymore,” Samuel stated dryly. He was back to standing a step or two to the rear of the god.

I grinned at him as I raised the bottle and took a long gulp, giving him a thumbs up with my free hand.

Apollo banged his head against his desk several times. I peered at him, unsure. Ummm, why would he want to do that? Wouldn't it hurt?

He lifted his head enough to stare at me. “Are you done? Why are you so weird?”

I weighed the answer I wanted to give him versus keeping silent. Answering him won.

“Because I am an oracle.”

Apollo’s head dropped hard against the surface one more time.

Fuck, he really could have hurt himself that time! Not that I was getting up to check. Nope. Staying right here.

The man sat up and ran his palms over his face before taking another deep breath and sitting back in his chair.

“Little oracle, I think my sister imagines you to be one of the greatest oracles to have been born. I have my doubts about that, but given she values you, I need to figure out why. Since I am the oracular god, you will stay here until I have determined you are not a threat to my plans. One advantage to you is that I will give you access to information that you otherwise wouldn’t have. I will find out what makes you unique and you will learn about what it means to be an oracle and perhaps grow your gifts.”
