“Interesting place you created here.” The man-shaped light turned in a circle, looking off into the grayness. When he came back around to face me, I shrugged.

“It is nothing,” I stated with a straight face.

“That is literally true,” he answered, dryly. “A universe of nothingness. Couldn’t you at least have created a comfortable space?”

I jerked, startled. I could manipulate this place like Lark had with his Gate World? Wow. Why hadn't I thought of that? Frowning, I stared down at my feet, thinking hard about what I might want to put there as a test.

A single purple flower appeared.

Huh. Guess he was correct. Except I would have to do my decorating later. Right now, I just wanted to get this session over.

Gazing back up at him, I met his expectant eyes. “No need to change things immediately. But thank you for reminding me I can.” I swept my arms out to my side, realizing that while I was holding his hands in the real world, here he wasn’t touching me. “But for me, this is also comforting. Nothing to distract me.”

He cocked his head, studying me before nodding. “Okay, let’s think about the future.”

I sighed. This was not how it worked for me, but I would try to do it his way first.

We thought and nothing happened. I was growing bored and a little frustrated when he reached out to me.

“Let’s touch here. Perhaps that will work better.”

I took his hands, trying to keep my mind clear of all thoughts.

Minutes passed before he dropped them. “Why can’t I connect with you here?” he growled.

Ha! What did he know? Not every oracle received prophecies when they thought about the future. For me, they just appeared.

I caught something moving in the distant grayness out of the corner of my eye, and turned towards it, answering him absently, “Because the way you prophesize is not how I do it.”

The disturbance grew closer, building up speed as it rushed towards me, slamming into us with more power than it ever had. A series of visions appeared before us, swirling around our projected bodies. I scrambled to scan them quickly before peeling off a tiny but significant one, tucking it deep into my psyche. I hoped that if he had seen it, it would have looked mundane to him.

Apollo focused on the main vision as the prophecy unfolded.

It showed a black wave of evilness creeping across the whole Earth, its momentum growing with every second. It appeared to me that this was because of those Lamni; the damn parasites were back to infecting humans again, one after another, leaping to the more influential or wealthy entities over all the world. Gaining power and forcing the division between the wealthy and poor wider.

I studied it, anger rising inside me. I spat out my words at the god. “This is what you created. Those are your agents, taking over my world.”

He didn’t react, only stated, “Do you understand why? Look for the root cause.”

I checked my anger, frowning. What in the hell was he talking about?

I probed the wave of blackness, and found it was only on the surface. There was something more—

Wait…

I pushed further down and touched a sickly pulsing. But behind it, much deeper, was what I only could call anger. Deep, widespread rage. It was seeping up through the crust of the planet. Some of it was fueling the aliens, giving them the energy to take over humanity. But the rest was being molded and channeled into something more.

Planet Earth was angry with her denizens. She was going to fix this, one way or another. And she would use anything or everything on her surface to get her message across.

I gasped, realizing this was why we were seeing unusual weather patterns. Why we were finding diseases that were more resistant. Why our icebergs were melting. Our planet was sentient and she was done with what we were doing to her.

She wanted us gone.

Another piece fell into place in my head. This wasn’t the first time our planet had gotten angry with those on her surface, either. No, it had gotten rid of the dinosaurs as well, causing the planet to start anew. It had created the black plague and weeded out humans by the millions.

And now it was trying to do the same. Some way, somehow, it would reset the clock for us.

Unless we did something to change the path we were currently on.
