They smell a little like Tamerin. He sounded puzzled. He sniffed the air, his head turning until his nose pointed at Holden. Her even more.

Well, this was curious. “Tamerin! Come out here! Renth says that Holden carries a scent similar to yours.” Then I added, knowing he was watching us, "That woman over there is my foster mother and my uncle's wife. The two munchkins attacking Renth are two of their triplets."

The gigantic beast cocked his head, those intelligent eyes pinned on my foster mother while he kept track of his new attachments. No one could deny Tamerin’s passage to Earth now. Not until we figured out what the link was between those two.

The Universa walked out the gate, his motions slow and wary. His eyes moved from one person to another, freezing when they got to Holden.

He said something in the language he had used when we had first met him. Holden, who could speak alien languages somehow, answered him, her words coming out slow at first.

He said something else, a smile lighting up his face. She replied again, laughing, before running over to hug the old man.

Shane looked around with a confused gaze. “What is going on?”

Betta and Stet appeared at the gate entrance just as James and Maggie arrived. James was in his dragon form and his mate was riding on his back. The massive red dragon also held Ravenal in his claws, letting her go once he had landed. The coven head patted one of his large claws with a shaking hand before turning to look at us.

All the newcomers stared at the sight in front of them.

My foster mother reached over to pick up one of her daughters who was crawling on the lecanifer's back. She had grabbed Roxy, the red-headed demon child, or so I called her.

The little girl screamed, “I want to play with the new kitty!”

Her mother ignored her. “I want you to meet your Uncle Tamerin.”

And now everyone, including me, was staring at them.

Uncle? What? Did that mean…?

Shane was the first to blurt out what we all were thinking. "He is your uncle? You are related to—?”

Holden gave him a gentle smile. “This is my father’s brother, according to him. Dad was always strange, but in a good way. I always thought it was because he was brilliant. Like Mom, but in a different way.”

Her husband frowned. “Your parents didn’t come to our wedding. I thought they might be dead or that you had a falling out with them while I was away, at war.”

She shook her head. “No, they were somewhere in the Amazon at that point and didn’t hear about it until it was over. Mom decided she could return later. Except, she gets lost in her studies about nature and forgets about everything but Dad. My father can work from anywhere. He’s an investment broker. Since he owns his own satellite, he always has internet so he can always check on his accounts.”

So much to parse in that brief statement, but my head went to the fact he had his own satellite? How rich was Holden’s family?

One of their little girls, Hope, wiggled down out of Shane's arms and wandered over, patting Tamerin’s hip. At five now, she was a petite thing with a fierce personality.

“Uncle Tamerin?” The little girl spewed off something in the alien language.

Tamerin’s eyes opened in amazement as he knelt down and answered her. He peered up at Holden and she shrugged. She said something to him in that same language in answer to the question on his face.

She turned to the rest of us. “It appears Hope has my ability with the languages of the universes.”

Well, darn.

Renth interrupted my thoughts. The beast was lying on his side with the third triplet rubbing his neck and body, half laying on him.

This one is like a cool mountain pool. She reminds me of home. His voice was soft and content, while his demeanor was sleepy.

“What is Lauren doing to my familiar?” I said, not asking anyone in particular.

The girl regarded me, her blue eyes seeming to drill straight into my soul. “He was worried and needed to relax, Soren. I helped him.”

Shane exhaled. “She’s an Omega. She calms us all.”

Roxy screeched again, squirming so much that Holden dropped her. The imp landed on her feet and went to stand in front of Tamerin, her little fists on her hips.
