Belesh threw up her hands, stopping me.

“Wait. Just... Wait! Too much information! Let me parse what you have already said first.” She shook her head, leaning forward. “First, what is this about a hybrid?”

I shrugged. “Holden, my foster mother and my uncle's wife, is a hybrid. She cannot shift well on her own, but she is a wolf shifter. At least partially. What was unexpected is when we found out she can also speak to and understand aliens on our planet. In their own language. She understood the freaking parasites—What were they called? Lamni?— and helped us to kill those who wanted to overthrow our world.”

Belesh fell back into her chair once more, staring at me. I frowned. What did all of this mean to her?

She spoke, her words coming between brief pauses. “She can converse in alien languages? All races, you say?”

I nodded. "Well, at least those we have come across so far."

“Who is her father?”

“No idea. Never met him. He didn’t even come to visit his triplet grandkids when they were born.”

“She has children?” Belesh’s voice rose an octave.

My frown deepened. “What is this about, Belesh?”

She hesitated before blurting out. “I wonder if that woman is Shalen's child. My niece!”

I stared at her in amazement. “Your niece?”

She rubbed her cheeks, causing them to go slightly pink. “Yes, to intrinsically know all languages is a capability many of my people have. Which would mean she has Universa blood. If my brother had married a lycanthrope, it would make her a mixture of the two races, since we don’t lose who we are even when our genetics merge with others. But she didn't lose those of her mother either, which would give her the ability to shift.”

Xotchi cocked her head, looking almost like a bird. “A hybrid.”

Well, this was an interesting twist.

Belesh gazed up at me. “Next, you mentioned a rare type of dragon.”

I glanced over at Xotchi, whose body tensed before she forced herself to relax. I wanted to laugh at her, but I knew that wouldn't have gone over well.

“I think, as a dragon herself, Xotchi can explain them better.” I calmly stated instead.

The look I got from her could have scorched wood. I widened my eyes, trying to appear innocent.

She growled, her entire body tense once again. Belesh studied her, waiting. Finally, the woman slumped, all the tension flowing out of her muscles, causing her lashes to lower.

“Spirit dragons are dragons who can control the spirits of all paranormals," she started, her tone controlled. "Other dragons, lycanthropes, other type of shifters. Everyone. Perhaps even humans. Since one hasn't existed on Earth for so long, much of the knowledge about their capabilities has been lost. Besides, no one knows if every single one of them has the same powers.” She paused.

Belesh got up and poured a glass of water, taking it over to her. Xotchi took it from her with a look of relief, gulping down half of it while Belesh returned to her chair.

She continued. “James already was something of an anomaly. His mother is a fire dragon—yes, she is still alive—who had procreated with a spirit dragon, resulting in him. He himself was a dual aspect beast—ice and fire—before acquiring his spirit aspect after mating with the omega wolf.”

Belesh’s head swiveled towards me. “Omega wolf?”

I smiled. “Maggie is the sweetest person. Being an omega doesn’t mean she is less in the lycanthrope world. It means she is a wolf that binds the pack together and helps them to modulate their emotions. We have discovered omegas don't come in only one flavor, but Maggie rises above them all. She is called the Queen Omega and can detect what she calls spirit strands in those around her. She says they are multi-colored and reflect not only what the person is but also their basic genetic composition. Like, pure humans have blue strands, but shifters have a blue strand intertwined with another color one that indicates their animal type.”

“Oh.” Belesh sat back, staring at nothing for several minutes. Her eyes then focused on me. “I must meet her. Knowing that information…” Her words trailed off.

I gave a slight bob of my head. “When you return to my world, you can meet her. In any case, when Maggie mated with James, it allowed him to share some of her abilities, I guess. He says he can see the strands and even manipulate them to a degree.”

She nodded, exhaling. “Anything else special?”

Xotchi barked out a laugh. I grinned back at her, amused. “Yep.” I popped the “p” before continuing. “A gaterunner whose mate is a demon peace guardian. My brother, who died and was changed into a being of pure energy— an angel—who then became a Protector as well as the embodiment of Mother Earth once Tellus went to her final sleep.”

I had to stop and snicker at the role he had acquired from the old earth dragon. My brother was not effeminate in any way. I was sure calling him Mother Earth would not go over well with him. “Oh, and the Berserkers. Konner has one which follows him around. The pack near my home has a mated berserker pair leading them, too. Tessa comes from a Berserker family, as her mother is one as well.”
