Staring at the spot my brother had been standing in, I cleared my throat before stating, “My brother, Konner, and his Berserker protector, Justin.”

It was time to go home. Hermes wouldn't leave until he found me.

Chapter Seventeen

Soren

What was Hermes doing here? He couldn't have followed Lily, since she hadn't arrived yet.

The Messenger God. Ha! I never really considered him a god, but still… He was one, according to the stories. Just one I tended to forget about. Bet it pissed him off that most everyone has forgotten he even existed.

Lexi unfolded to her full height, her whole countenance changing by the second. She stood taller and her hair blew out from around her face.

“Hermes, what are you doing here?” Her voice sounded eerie, unlike her own.

Shit! Artemis had taken control of Lexi’s body to confront her half-brother.

Now, we had gods here and they were arguing. In this house. Lily's family house. Could Alemos even survive this if they came to blows?

An icy breeze touched me, caressing my skin as it passed. It didn't push against my body in any way, but it slammed into Hermes hard. He staggered back one step before leaning into it, his eyes half closed.

“Commandeering the wind to get your way, Artemis? What a cowardly thing to do.” He waved one hand, and a flock of ravens flew into the house, riding on the air currents as they flowed through the open door.

All the air movement stopped. Every breeze stilled except those swirling around the god containing him in an air funnel.

The birds faltered, fluttering their wings to keep from dropping to the floor with the sudden lack of pressure to keep them aloft. While they struggled, another draft struck them head-on from a different direction, pushing them head over tail feathers out the door.

It slammed shut, closing the god in here with us, but without his birds.

Lexi laughed. “It is not I, brother, who is doing these things. A witch made this house next to a major portal gate, using its energy. It has—” she paused before her grin turned evil. “It has opinions. And it doesn’t like you or your ravens within its boundaries.”

With that, the winds swirled faster, lifting the god up until his head almost slammed into the ceiling. The front door opened once more and the air currents rushed him out of the house, tossing him off the porch like he was a piece of trash.

Lexi moved after him, watching to make sure he wouldn't return to the house.

I followed behind my sister. I knew this asshole had disliked my mate, causing her a ton of problems. Given that, I didn’t like him. Not at all.

With the sudden lack of wind, the god stumbled, almost falling before he got his feet under him. Once he was steady, he stood up and whirled to face the house.

“Apollo will not be happy you are siding with these humans, Artemis,” he growled, standing there with his fists on his hips, his birds circling above his head.

I shook out my hands, preparing to use a spell that could protect us. Ravenal shot me a glare, those blind eyes somehow finding me.

“Soren,” she hissed.

Did she side with these gods? No, she didn't know what they had done to Lily yet. Few did. But there was no time to explain it to her right now.

I completed my shield spell, throwing it over the house to protect it as I stared back at her, daring her to stop me. There was no way these assholes would destroy my mate’s family home when they started fighting.

Not. A. Chance.

The coven leader, seeing that I was using a defensive spell, nodded once in agreement while gazing at the gods.

Lexi stood, looking relaxed, with her arms down at her sides. Hermes was tense, his hands clenched, his lips pulled back in a snarl.

“Apollo has no rights to this world, Hermes. Neither do you. It is mine. It has always been mine. You need to leave now.” The goddess’ tone was resolute.

The god growled again, his volume rising to a shout. “Apollo!”
