Nothing happened. My sister smiled, except it wasn’t a pleasant one. I shivered, wondering what would happen next.

I could tell that James was itching to change into his spirit dragon and attack, and it was only Maggie holding him back. Shane and Holden were standing before the door to the house, keeping their little girls safe within.

Ravenal stayed beside me, and Tamerin was on the porch, watching all of this play out, his book in his hand.

Lark stood behind his mate, his hands on her shoulders.

Hermes spun around, peering at the gate below us as Stet and Betta led five people up the hill. My heart jumped, my eyes locking on Lily, even though she was in the middle of the group.

I heard Tamerin gasp, but he stayed where he was. I realized there was another of his race within their midst, which must have caused his reaction.

Konner and Justin bracketed my mate, while Xotchi and the Universa walked behind them. They halted several feet away from the god, creating a triangle with Lexi and Lark at one point, and Hermes on the other.

Lily continued forward, pausing several paces in front of the others, taking the third point.

I reached out and gathered energy, holding it for my mate, ready to funnel the smallest bit in case she needed it.

“Hermes,” she greeted, sounding like the oracle she was.

And with that word, a bright light burst within the center of the three points, convalescing into a male form whose back was to the other god.

This man was tall, with broad shoulders and slim hips. His hair was blond and long, tied back with a leather strip. He wore nothing like the books had depicted him. No, he was dressed in black, tight-fitting jeans and a white T-shirt. But that wouldn’t stop anyone from mistaking who this was. Those blue eyes alone, a shade that never existed in humans, told the story with one glance.

Lily made a sound of disappointment. “Apollo. Did you send your watchdog to find me?”

The brightness flared before dimming back down, leaving only the slightest glow around his form.

“I have come to retrieve you, my oracle,” he stated, his arrogance shining through.

I snorted. That was not the way to approach my mate.

She didn’t react, though, her eyes just focused on the man.

Konner stepped up beside her, his arm bumping her shoulder. “Why are you here, Apollo? This is no place for the sun god.”

A flash of disgust crossed the god’s face, disappearing within seconds, a false smile replacing it. “Angel. Why are you here? This is a matter for the pantheons, not for the Christian—“ He paused as if looking for the word, before he spat out, “Metaphor.”

I was sure he was going to say something different, but Konner did something that caused my eyes to pop open.

He glowed.

The light emanating from him was almost as bright as the sun god himself. It pulsed as he stood next to his sister.

Lark moved up to her other side, pulling energy from his gate into his hands, causing them to radiate in a different way.

“We are family. This is the Sarabas gate, now called Alemos. You are on our land. And yet, we did not invite you here,” The Gatekeeper stated quietly, but there was no doubt he thought he could evict the god.

Perhaps he could, being we were now standing in front of his place of power.

Apollo studied the triplets, realization as to what he was facing causing caution to cross his face. On their own, he would win. But with all three of them united against him? There had to be some question in his mind if he would leave here without any damage. Not that he would back down. There was too much at stake for him here.

My eyes flew to my mate’s face.

Her eyes now looked like opals, almost as white as Ravenal’s were, but with streams of lavender flowing through them. Her silver hair was blowing back away from her emotionless face, her bone structure looking like it had been carved from stone.

“Now is not your time, Apollo.” Her voice rang out, her words echoed by Ravenal's, who stood mesmerized beside me. Somehow, the Oracle had linked with the seer to get her message across. “You have interfered with this planet's future already and plan to do more. Leave and let us prepare for what is coming.”

Apollo took an inadvertent step back towards Hermes before he stopped himself. I was sure he didn’t want to appear weak in front of this many people.
