He saluted me, not turning his head.

They disappeared through the gate's arch after the red dragon.

Soren stared down the hill towards the place. “Will they be okay? There won't be any dead bodies, will there?”

“Nope. Lake is immense, Xotchi isn't the same as she was back when she lived here, and my brother and his shadow will police any tiffs that come up. They will not destroy Belesh’s lab. Truthfully? I would be more afraid of Belesh than any dragon if they ruined her equipment, but—” I shrugged.

Evangeline and James would learn that if they mess with the Universa, they may find their atoms rearranged.

Chapter Nineteen

Soren

Lily and I were playing with the girls when the others returned—loud, joyous, and hungry.

Holden swooped in, picking up Roxy and smacking the little girl’s cheek before turning to the man and woman standing near her.

The man was—unusual. His hair was dark, reaching his shoulders, and his eyes were a bright violet, a color a shade or two darker than Lily's lavender. He was average height and weight and if it wasn’t for the length of that hair or his eyes, he could disappear in a crowd.

But there was something different about how he moved. I frowned, realizing he carried himself more like Tamerin. As if he still had overlong arms and feet which were able to grasp things easily. My eyes widened, seeking my friend.

Tamerin moved over next to me. “Our Malen had changed him to fit in better here on this planet. This is not his usual form, but those are the eyes I remember from childhood.”

This was what the Universa could do? “Whoa!” I breathed out.

Tamerin nodded. “Yes. Belesh has all of Malen’s notes. She could change me to appear closer to what Shalen is now. But I don't want her to. Not yet.”

I cocked my head. The older man had to realize the changes their parent had made allowed their brother to go anywhere here on Earth. And if the other two wanted to stay here, it would make their lives easier.

Lily poked me. “Their choice.”

I exhaled.

The woman beside him was a lycanthrope. I knew this from the moment she entered the house. She ran over to Holden, a huge grin on her face as she took Roxy from Holden’s arms.

“Everyone, this is my mother and father. Shalen and Vasteria Black.”

Her mother waved a hand, but her father ignored us, crouching down to peer at the two other girls. Lauren smiled at him, but Hope walked over and touched his face, moving with restraint for once.

He murmured something in what I thought was the Universa language, and the girl answered, her words halting. He pointed over his shoulder at his brother and sister, and she glanced at each of them before turning back to him. She wrapped her arms around his neck and held him tight, like she had finally found home.

Lauren came over and patted her sister’s back, grinning up at her grandmother.

Vasteria gasped. “Omega?”

Holden nodded. “Yes, we think so. They are all so different and yet so similar.”

Shalen stood, holding Hope in his grasp. “They were meant to be.” He turned a grave face towards his daughter, his granddaughter’s face tucked against his shoulder. “Malen, my mother, said I was to be the one to bring the Universa genes to Earth. That we would start again here. Belesh was to take her knowledge of genetics and Tamerin had the Korchamen.”

Vasteria reached down to take Lauren’s hand, her head swiveling to glance around. “I remember this house.”

A warm breezed flowed through the room.

“And Alemos remembers you,” Lily stated, standing in front of me.

Shalen turned to study her. “Where are Miriam and Joseph Sarabas?”

Lark answered this time. “Dead.” The grief he held deep inside peeked out with that one word.
