Winnie shakes her head back and forth. “No, it can’t. There’s too much at risk, too much that could go wrong.”

I want to argue with her and tell her she’s the one who’s wrong. But I don’t. Instead, I put my faith in what I’ve been feeling for years and the evidence from that hot as fuck kiss. “Tell me you don’t want me. Tell me you haven’t wanted me for the last two years and I’ll let you walk into that house. But don’t lie to me, Winnie. Don’t lie and pretend that kiss didn’t mean anything to you.”

She gasps. “Brody, what you’re asking…”

“Dammit, Winnie! I’m just asking if you feel this?” I ask, gesturing between us.

Winnie glares at me. “Of course, I feel it, you damn gorilla! I’ve been feeling it. But what do you expect me to do? Ella is my best friend, not to mention my business partner!”

“So what?” I burst out.

“So what? So what? You’ve got to be kidding me right now! You just expect me to throw everything out the window for what... for…”

“For us,” I say before kissing her again.
