“Done. It’s as good as it’s gonna get. At least it doesn’t smell like cat piss anymore.” The boy laughed. Marissa’s lips twitched. He had a great hearty laugh. “So, can I go over to…” He stopped in mid-sentence when his eyes aimed down at Marissa. His lower lip jutted out and fell open, and his eyes grew double in size.

“Trev…” Caden’s voice sounded almost feral, like a warning growl of some sort.

Trev, who she assumed was the boy, continued to stare. Not at her face. His eyes were locked on her shirt, mainly her breasts. A sharp, throaty laugh caught her attention from Grady.

“Shut. Up,” Caden said tightly.

Grady laughed again as he sat back in his chair. The springs creaked from his full weight. “Oh hell, Cade, can you blame him?”

Caden moved swiftly, and she watched his back as he made his way to the boy. The teen leaned around Caden’s body and grinned. His head was jerked, and Caden’s body was now blocking the boy. She couldn’t hear everything they were saying, but she did make out one thing.

“Keep your eyes off her tits.”

All this for breasts? Caden turned around and had a firm grip on the back of the boy’s neck. As the two approached, she realized they must be related. The boy appeared to be a replica for Caden aside from having darker hair. He wasn’t as tall as Caden either, but again she craned her head to look up at him when they stopped two feet away.

“Marissa, this is my kid. Trevor.” His grip tightened on the boy’s neck.

“Hi.” She smiled as it clicked. This was the boy in the school picture.

Trevor smiled, and his stare was set on her eyes, but control wasn’t the strongest suit for a teenage boy, and she wasn’t surprised when his gaze quickly flickered down to her breasts again. He cringed, and his shoulder shot up the same time as his eyes. She didn’t miss the grasp of Caden’s hold.

“Hey, Marissa.”

“Trev cleaned a room for ya, so we’ll get you set up,” Caden said. There was an obvious tension in his tone.

Marissa glanced at Trevor. “Thank you.”

The boy sucked in a breath. “You’re welcome. Are you staying long?”

Caden gave her no time to answer, which was fine because she didn’t have one anyway. He released his son and nudged him toward the stairs. “Be home by seven.”

Trevor glanced over his shoulder at Marissa. “I can stay if you need me to.”

“Go.” Caden stood with his back to her, watching Trevor slowly retreat down the stairs. He smiled up at his dad and waggled his brows.

“Sure I can’t help, Dad? I’d really like to help.”

“Go.” He stepped forward, but Trevor rushed down the stairs, leaving a trail of chuckles along the way.

Caden turned with a scowl embedding his brows. He walked toward her.

Marissa smiled and clasped her hands. “He looks like you.”

He stopped mid-step.

“Trevor. He looks like you.” Why this excited her, she had not a clue, but it did. Marissa could almost envision what Caden must have looked like as a boy. She rocked on her heels and grinned. “Same eyes and bone structure.”

He stared at her as though she grew a second head. He shook his head and drew his hands to rest on his hips.

“I can’t fucking have this.”

She glanced around the room, not understanding what he was referring to. “Have what?”

He rolled his eyes and then stared at the ceiling, his jaw jutted out, and the creases on his forehead deepened. Even burly with a touch of annoyance, he had a great face.

“This.” He lifted his chin to her.

He must have changed his mind about helping her out. How strange. He went through all the trouble to have her car towed by Dylan and then a room cleaned by Trevor, just to change his mind? A tingle of disappointment rushed through her stomach. She slowly nodded. He was well within his right.
