“Okay.”

He turned to walk away.

“One more thing,” she blurted.

He turned slowly and scowled. “What?”

“I-I um.” She stammered from his harsh glare. “I’m sorry about the whole no bra and Trevor incident.”

Caden twisted his lips, and she caught a faint snicker. He paused and then looked at her with a small gleam in his eyes. “I’ll try to get one of my guys to look at your car today, but gotta see where the workload is at.” He averted his eyes and made his way to the door. He was out on the porch before he turned around, grasping the doorknob. “It’s Friday, and we usually have everyone at our house, the guys in the warehouse and the tenants. It’s a potluck.” He paused. “You know what that is?”

“Uh-huh. Everyone brings something to share.” She hadn’t attended many, and it had been quite some time.

The corner of his mouth lifted. “Yeah. Come by around seven.”

“I don’t have anything to bring.”

“It’s all right.” His brows curved into a slightly sinister scowl, but his lips curved into a smile. “Just please, wear a fucking bra.” He closed the door, and he was gone.

“I can’t believe she didn’t show.”

Caden sighed, rolling his eyes as he rinsed the last pot in the sink. This had been the hundredth time he made the same comment. It was just past eleven, and he was ready to end the shit storm of a day. He was also done with listening to Trevor bitch about Marissa being a no show.

Pop had stumbled off to bed thirty minutes ago. Dylan, Grady, and the guys from the warehouse took off for the bar in town.

The only ones left were him, Drake, and Trevor. He rinsed the pot, setting it in the drying rack, and took the dishtowel from over his shoulder to dry his hands. He leaned across the counter for his beer when Trevor started up again.

“Drake, bro, I’ve never seen tits like this.”

Drake chuckled and eyed Caden. They were seated at the kitchen table.

Caden snorted. “You never seen a pair of tits, period.”

His sly smile told him different. Trevor’s chest rose. “Tracy Dwyer. She flashed me on my birthday.”

Drake choked a little on his beer and coughed. He swiped his mouth with his sleeve, giving Trevor a side glance and then smirking up at Caden. “How come no girls were flashing us back in high school?”

Caden and Drake had been friends since middle school. Most of the crew they hung around had left Turnersville. Rarely did they come back. Who could blame them? It was a shithole for anyone who wasn’t a Reilly or connected to one. Drake and Caden had remained tight, and when Caden went into the trucking business, he made Drake his lead mechanic.

“Maybe your swag was shit,” Trevor teased.

“Boy, my swag was never shit. You didn’t get better than us. The girls just got sluttier.”

Caden laughed and let Trevor have his bragging moment, but they would be sitting down for another talk soon enough. The last thing he needed was to have his son fall into the same fate as him.

“Well, I’m sorry I missed the newest resident, but I’m sure I’ll see her around. How long she staying?”

Caden shrugged. “Don’t know.”

Trevor slapped the table. “God, I hope she’s not wearing a bra next time I see her.”

“Oh fuck, Trev, stop.”

Drake laughed and got up from the table. “Must have been some set to have your boy this excited, Cade.” Drake squeezed Trev’s shoulder as he passed. “See ya later.”

“Later, man.”
