“Bye, Drake.”

Caden sat back and watched his son. Now would be a good time for their talk. Trevor was a smart, talented kid with a future. The last thing he wanted was him saddled down with a kid. Caden had regrets in life, but Trevor wasn’t one of them. Life dealt him a son, and he couldn’t be prouder, but still, a life with less obstacles stacked against him, and maybe a good woman by his side, would have been better. He finished his beer in one swallow and rested his elbows on the table.

“Trev, we…” Movement from the living room caught his sight, and he watched Drake walk back in grinning.

Caden sat up.

“Look who I found.”

Marissa walked up closer to Drake and stood awkwardly in the doorway. His son’s chair scraped against the floor, and he could almost feel the joy exploding out from every pore in the kid’s fucking body. He’d have to go by his sense alone because his eyes were glued to Marissa.

“I was walking back to my place and met her coming out,” Drake said. He watched his buddy waggle his brows. “Turns out she fell asleep. She was coming to find out if everyone was still here.”

“Hi.” Marissa raised her hand in a quick wave.

“Hey, Marissa, so cool you showed up.”

Caden rolled his eyes and glanced at Drake. His smile was light, watching Trevor shoot up from the table and inch closer to Marissa.

“We got plenty of leftovers, you hungry?”

“Yeah but…” Caden watched her peek out from behind Trevor, who was nearly blocking his view. She didn’t make eye contact. She scanned the counter and then back up to Trevor. “You have everything cleaned up.”

Trevor shrugged. “It’s all in the fridge. I’ll make ya a plate.”

Drake chuckled. “Damn, kid was the first in line and got seconds before me, and now he’s got manners, making plates and shit?”

Trevor smiled. “She’s prettier than you.”

Caden kept his gaze on Marissa. Fuck yeah, she was.

Drake nudged Trevor with his arm. “You got me there. I’m heading out. Marissa, good to meet ya. Make sure the Reilly boys feed ya, and I’m sure I’ll be seeing a lot more of you.”

Caden covered his mouth to keep his smile under wraps. Fucking Drake. He shot up his arm with a quick acknowledgment, and Drake passed behind Marissa, taking a long appreciative look at her ass. Marissa stood in the same spot with her hands clasped in front of her. When she caught him staring, she blushed and shifted in her stance. Damn sexy except for her oversize sweatshirt. His skin prickled and heated under her stare. God damn woman. He’d bet his left nut she wasn’t wearing a bra.

Caden lifted his chin toward the chair, and she lingered slowly in her spot before coming over to the table. She pulled out the seat and sat down, tugging the sweatshirt away from her breasts. Motherfucker! Nothing could be seen, but just knowing her tits were swaying free was giving him a similar reaction to his son’s earlier. No pride in getting hard as quick as a sixteen-year-old virgin.

“How’s the room?” Caden asked.

“It’s nice.”

Trevor laughed as he placed the plate in front of her. “Nice for a shithole.” Caden reacted swiftly, knocking the back of his head with the palm of his hand.

“Watch your mouth.”

“Sorry, sorry, I forgot.” He slipped by his dad, giving an extra-large berth.

“It looks good.” Caden turned to Marissa and followed her eyes to her plate. “All of it.” Her eyes widened, and the three words were drawn out slowly.

“Christ, Trev, she’s not a linebacker.” Marissa’s plate was overflowing with mounds of food.

“I’ll wrap up what ya can’t eat, and you can take it back to the apartment. You’ll have something to eat tomorrow.”

Caden snorted. “And for the next five fucking days.” Trevor’s face fell and turned a shade of pink. Fuck! He was embarrassing his kid, which wasn’t his intention. He used to hate when his Pop would call him out in front of people, even when he deserved it. Nothing cut deeper than when it happened in front of a girl.

“It looks really good.” Marissa’s soft voice piped in. “I can’t remember the last time I had a homecooked meal, so I don’t mind eating it for a week.” She turned to his boy and smiled. “Thanks, Trevor.”

A little attention and a compliment was all it took, and the kid was back.
