Caden shifted his attention to Rourke. “How’d she take that?”

Rourke arched his brow. “She threatened to cut off my balls.”

Caden laughed along with the other men in the room except Kase, who continued to eye Caden. He ignored the glare and reached out for Saint’s hand. Of all the brothers, he had known Saint the longest, since they were teenagers. He also had the most in common with him being a parent.

“How’s that little girl of yours?”

Saint sighed. “Too pretty. But I’ll get to see her more. Her mom lives about twenty minutes outside of Ghosttown.”

Caden nodded. “Nice. It’s good you’ll have her close by, man.”

Kase ambled over to the sink, washing his hands. His silence was unusual, which meant something was up. He could read his brother like no other.

“You guys check the trailer?”

Kase wiped his hands with a dishtowel and turned slowly. “Not yet.” He sighed. “You taking in fucking strays now?”

Marissa.

“She’s staying till she figures shit out.”

Kase’s lip curled. “What kinda shit? How to get your dick wet?”

Caden narrowed his eyes at his brother. There was something in his tone. “You got a problem with who I board? ’Cause it ain’t none of your business, Kase. We’re partners on the trucks, nothing else. Remember that.”

Kase barked out a laugh. “I see she’s already figured out the wet dick part.” He folded his arms, leaning back against the counter. “How’s she covering the rent, on her back or ass up?”

Caden would not take the bait, but he had no problem throwing shit back in his brother’s face. He shrugged and took a swig of his beer. “Don’t see why you care, either way it won’t be paid through you. Unless you’ve taken on forcing women now. Turned ya down, Kase, remember?”

Kase’s laughed, though it lacked humor. “I remember.”

The tension in the room was thick, with neither brother backing off. They continued to stare at one another. He shook his head, and Caden braced for his sharp tongue. Kase had been outspoken and harsh with his words since he could remember. He was loyal and fierce, but he had a way of igniting a fire of rage in people. Especially Caden.

“Fucking Fruity Pebbles, huh?”

“Who I fuck ain’t none of your business, but you wanna sit here all night discussing it, I’m game.”

Kase jerked his head, knowing the shit that worked on others wouldn’t fly with him. Kase was notorious for pushing buttons until he got his way. It’s what made him a good president. People responded to his aggressive side and would do mostly everything he wanted. But Caden had known him too long and had gone up against him too many times. This was the difference between him and his club brothers.

“I’m thinking this is a longtime gash.”

Caden shrugged. “Think whatever the fuck you want.”

Trax, Rourke, and Saint stood in silence. This was a family matter, and they wouldn’t intercede. However, Caden was aware of the tension in the room. Kase didn’t seem to be bothered by it.

He jerked his chin. “She’s fucking crazy, probably slice your dick while your sleeping.”

Caden snorted and folded his arms. “My dick ain’t your concern.”

Kase wouldn’t win with this one. Caden wouldn’t let him.

Kase laughed, shaking his head. “No, it ain’t. Let’s check out the trailer.”

Kase led the men outside with Caden trailing behind. He noticed Saint slow down and let Trax and Rourke pass while he sidled up next to Caden. They made their way toward the back garage in silence. Until Saint spoke.

“This is good, you partnering with us. Don’t know if Kase said it, but in case not,” Saint turned to him, “thanks.”

Caden nodded. This was Saint’s way.
