Caden didn’t miss a step but jerked his head and sent a warning glare at Drake. “Do I fucking look like I’m in the mood for a heart to heart?”

Drake held up his hands and clamped his lips. Caden started through the lot again.

“You’ll work it out, then ya get a make-up fuck. You’ll be golden.” Drake was trying to lighten his mood, but it wouldn’t work.

“No, we won’t work shit out. Now shut the fuck up.”

“Cade, man, let’s fucking go,” Kase’s voice barked from behind him.

He sighed and turned, walking to the warehouse. He didn’t even bother looking at Kase. He stormed through the door and headed straight back to the trailer where everyone was waiting. Kase’s booted steps echoed through the open building from behind.

“Where are we at?” Cade asked, avoiding Drake’s stare.

“We got the first truck loaded,” Kase said as he climbed up onto the trailer.

Kase and the club had started their business of buying out parts stores that were folding. They had used his empty garage to store everything. This would be the first delivery. All the men seemed stoked, though Caden couldn’t seem to bring himself to share in their joy. He was so damn pissed. At Marissa. At himself. How could he have let himself fall for her?

“We’re gonna move a few shipments over to Ghosttown today. Gonna call everyone in, but we’re gonna need the place cleared. Can you spare the work load so we got nothing in our way and use of all the trucks?” Kase said and then turned to Caden. “If it sets ya behind, we’ll do it in a few runs.”

Cade lifted his chin. “It’s fine. We’re slow right now. You use what ya need, and I’ll clear my guys on their workload.” He made his way through the garage and up to the office.

He spent the next few hours clearing the schedule. They had been slow, he wasn’t lying. Giving his guys an early day would work for everyone.

“We are heading out. You coming?” Grady stood at the end of his desk. Caden glanced up to the clock over his head. Fuck! Three fifteen. He had spent the entire day in the office, only stopping by the house to check on his Pop at lunch time. He half expected to see Marissa sitting on the porch, but it was empty. He refused to acknowledge the disappointment of not seeing her again. Had he overreacted? Fuck, no. She was hiding something.

Caden sat back in his chair and shook his head. “No, I got shit to do here.” He pulled out his wallet and grabbed two hundreds, tossing them on the desk. “Have fun, don’t get fucking arrested.” He narrowed his eyes. “Again.”

Grady laughed and swiped the cash from the desk. “I like this worker appreciation shit you’re starting.” He folded the bills and stuffed them into his pocket. “Titties and ass are always appreciated.”

Caden snickered. “Get outta here.”

It was the least he could do. His guys worked hard for him, and with Kase and the club moving shipment from the garage to Ghosttown, it left nothing for his guys to do except sit around. This way he cleared everyone out and the guys would have a good time at the strip club.

He waited until Grady was down the steps before reaching for his phone and texting Lucy, one of his tenants. She offered to take out his dad for the day to keep him out of the way. The text was returned before he had the chance to put his phone down.

Lucy: We just got into town. Jack wants to see a movie, then we’ll get dinner. Probably won’t be back until after eight.

Caden: Sounds good.

He hit Send and sat back in his chair.

Lucy: Have you seen Rissa today?

He narrowed his brows. Women were tricky creatures, usually taking each other’s back. He was suspicious of Lucy’s question.

Caden: Earlier. Why?

He was waiting on her response.

Lucy: Just curious. I was going to invite her to come with us, but she didn’t answer her door this morning, and then when I went to go get your dad, her car was gone.

Caden gripped his phone so tight it could have broken in his hand. The heat rose from his chest to his neck in three seconds flat. He slammed his hand on the desk. “Fuck!”

His voice must have echoed through the entire building because when he darted down the stairs, Drake was standing in the center of the garage with his tools in his hand.

“What’s wrong?”

He stormed past him for the door. “You see Rissa?”
