His hands hooked on her waist, and he lifted her ass onto the counter, spreading her legs and stepping between them. She peeked open her eyes, and his face was inches away. His heated stare grew closer, and his head angled to the right. She knew what was coming and did nothing to stop it. Why would she? She wanted his mouth on her. His lips pressed against her gently. This was not how he’d kissed her before ever. It had been all passion and rough, not that she had minded at the time. This was different, slow and easy, no rushing. His lips lingered over hers in a feathery touch.

Without thinking, her hands gripped his shirt, pulling him closer into the curve of her body. His tongue swiped across her lips, sending her body into a shivering mess. She plunged her tongue between his lips and moaned against his mouth.

Then he did what she least expected. He pulled away slightly, kissing her lips in short pecks and grasping her neck, holding her away from him.

“Thanks for helping out with Pop.” He kissed her again before stepping away and clasping her hand as she slid off the counter.

She wiped her lips, trying to conceal her blushing cheeks. This was not how she expected to be leaving. But she was. He was walking her to the door, still holding her hand with his. He opened the door, leading her onto the porch.

He turned her around to face him and locked the palm of his hand on her neck. “I’m gonna see you tomorrow?”

He was asking, not demanding. She hadn’t thought too much about what tomorrow would bring. She’d been that way for the last two years, live for the day, not the future. She didn’t know how to answer him. She bit her lip.

He leaned down, kissed her again, and mumbled against her lips. “I wanna see you tomorrow. So, answer me, am I gonna?”

“Yes,” she whispered.

His lips spread into a smile. “Good, now go on.”

He was seriously sending her back to her place? Alone? Maybe he was waiting on an invitation. Surely, after his admission, he wanted her.

“You could come with me.”

He smiled. “Yeah, and probably wouldn’t leave your bed for days.”

“Is that such a bad thing?” She peered up through her lashes.

“No, but not tonight.”

He kissed her and let go of her hand and walked back into the house, closing the door behind him.

She stood on the porch confused. What just happened? If not for the porch light going off, she might have stood there all night. She made her way down the porch and through the yard. That was weird. It was obvious he wanted her, but he sent her home.

She glanced over her shoulder at the house. She was halfway through the yard, only a few feet away from the unit. The house was mostly dark with the exception of a room upstairs and the light shining from the family room. At the window, she caught a glimpse of his shadow watching her. He didn’t move; he just watched. She gave the house one last look when she got to her small porch. Caden remained in the window. She opened the door and walked through, closing it behind her.

Why was he watching? To see if she got home safe? Why? She was only fifty yards away. Maybe he was looking at something else or just happened to be talking on the phone by the back window. She opened the door and peeked around the porch. The shadow was gone. She smiled as she made her way back into the house.

Caden glanced up from the desk to the wall. Ten thirty-six. He’d gotten in the office early, set on catching up from yesterday’s backlog. It was a pleasant surprise to find Grady had covered most of the work from the other day. A few phone calls and updating the driver’s logs was done in half the time he expected.

“How’d it go yesterday?”

Caden glanced up from his computer. Grady dropped a brown bag on his desk and ambled over. He sat back in his chair.

“Not bad, it’s an easy route.”

“You look like shit. Get in late?”

Caden rubbed his eyes. He knew damn well he looked like he hadn’t gotten any sleep last night. His dry eyes and one look in the mirror this morning told him. While it had been a late night, it wasn’t the reason he lost sleep. God, fucking Marissa. He spent the first thirty minutes jerking off to her and the next hour and half debating on whether to go over to her place.

“Yeah. Listen, I’m out for the day. You need me, call, but it should be pretty quiet here.”

Grady crossed his arms and gave a sharp nod. “You got it. Still doing potluck tomorrow?”

“It’s Friday, isn’t it?”

“Just checking.” Grady walked over to his desk and settled in while Caden closed down his computer and grabbed his keys. He crossed the office to the large metal closet in the corner. It was almost bare, with only a few office supplies and several beat up helmets. He grabbed Trevor’s old one and locked up the cabinet.
