He nodded. “Kills my pride, though.”

“Cade,” she whispered. “It’s a deal where both parties benefit. It’s nothing you should be ashamed of.”

He laughed.

“What?” she asked.

“Just reminded of how good you are for my ego. I tell ya I’m going under and the deal saved my ass, and you’re telling me they needed me to save them.”

“It’s true.”

She pursed her lips, peering up through her lashes. She lowered her gaze to his chest. He stalked forward, leaning over her and sending her to her back.

His mouth skimmed her ear, his lips nipping at her lobe. She lifted her head and met his lips, taking him in for an intense kiss. She just wanted him. No thoughts of her past or his present. Just them, the two of them, right there. She hooked her arms around his shoulders and pulled him deeper into her. He straightened to full height and lifted her against his chest.

She was barely conscious of where he was moving to, but she didn’t care. Her only concern was his lips on hers and him not letting go. She fell forward on top of him, not breaking their kiss as he lay on the bed. His hands were suddenly everywhere, her back, squeezing her ass, and finally gripping the backs of her thighs and raising them to straddle him.

His tongue speared from his lips, grazing her bottom lip and sending a ripple effect over her flesh. This man.

“Gotta get you in bed and rested. We’re taking a ride over to Ghosttown, spending the night, so pack an overnight bag.”

She jolted up. “At Kase’s?”

He nodded. “The clubhouse.”

“Maybe I should just stay here.” It was sound advice she’d hoped he’d take. Kase and she had proven, some people just didn’t mesh well.

“Macy and Chey will be there. It’ll be a good time.”

She bit her lip. At least there was an upside to the trip. She had enjoyed talking with them, even though it was brief. Their invitation to hang out seemed sincere. She drew in a breath. Macy and Chey weren’t her issue. That would be Kase.

“Afraid of Kase?”

She smiled. The more time she spent with him, the more he was able to read her.

She tilted her head. “He doesn’t like me.”

Caden snorted. “Kase don’t like anybody.”

“Right, so I’ll just stay here.”

“Kase is an asshole, Riss. Always has been, but he’s equally smart. He knows what you mean to me. He won’t fuck with you, I promise.”

Marissa sighed and sank into Caden’s chest. This was going to be a shit show.

Chapter Sixteen

The ride to Ghosttown had been too short. She could have spent the next few hours riding with the wind beating against her face and her arms clutched around Caden’s waist. Who knew when she finally found her happy place it would be on the back of a motorcycle?

The bike slowed down as they made a sharp turn. They had spent the last twenty minutes on country roads. It was hard to imagine anything but wildlife living in the area. But as Caden made a left, the center of town appeared. Caden had mentioned there wasn’t much to Ghosttown. He wasn’t lying. She had seen quite a few small towns in her last two years of travelling but nothing as desolate as this one.

Caden pulled over into an angled parking spot. There were two cars parked farther down the road, but other than that, it was completely deserted. He gripped her leg in a tight squeeze before he motioned for her to get off the bike. She did and lifted off her helmet, tucking it under her arm and scanning the street.

The town that never was. Until now, according to Caden.

“What do ya think?”

She circled in her spot and eyed him. “It reminds me of a low budget scary movie. Ya know, where the couple runs out of gas and they’re stuck in a small old town.” She snapped her fingers. “The one where the kids take over the town, you remember?”
