That’s it. She’s going to kill him. I can’t step in and help him with this one. Good thing he sleeps with one eye open.

“You won’t touch any of my men!” she responds, with the same frigid chill to her words.

Her padre tilts his head, his eyes searching her, putting together what she means by her demand. “You’re dating all of them?”

“My personal life is none of your business,” she throws at him. Her gaze lands on mine, the fury she holds for me growing even more with how much she can’t stand her padre. “Take care of Grayson. I need some space.”

She doesn’t say the words “or else,” but they come through loud and clear. She’s trusting me to take care of him, and if I fuck this up, she’ll never forgive me. And the fact that she trusts me this much right now, means she hasn’t completely written me off. There’s still a chance I can win her back.

Enzo helps her climb from the desk and leads her through the door in the back of the room. I don’t know what he plans on showing her about the mafia life, but I do trust that he’ll keep her safe. Their father watches them leave, pride written across his features. When the door closes behind them, he turns his gaze back on me, the smile melting from his features.

“Vander,” he clips, the same coldness Remi gives off coming over him. There’s no doubting where she gets it from. “It seems you’ve left some things out in your reports. Why didn’t you tell me before that she’s dating all of them?”

Remi might think I’ve completely betrayed her, but I haven’t. While I’ve shared a few details of what’s been going on, like her love of killing, I haven’t shared everything. “Because you sent me to protect her, and part of that is to protect her privacy. Her dating life isn’t something that affects her safety.” At least not with the men she’s dating.

His eyes narrow on me in displeasure. “How could you let her date more than one man? You know I’d never approve of it,” he grumbles, his face twisting with disgust. “I should have had you bring her home much sooner.”

My stomach twists, but I have to stand by my woman’s side. No matter how much wrath it brings upon me. “You have to get used to the idea if you ever want a relationship with her. She won’t give them up, no matter what other plans you had for her. She’s given enough for the famiglia. Let her live her own life.”

Rage flows through him, making his face flush before he explodes from his chair. He’s around the desk and has a hand in my shirt in a blink. I don’t move, knowing it’s the best course of action to keep a bullet out of my brain.

“Who do you think you are to tell me how to handle my daughter?” he spits in my face.

I calmly reply, “I’m the man who stood by you every second of our search for her. I’m the man who has dedicated my life to protecting her. The man who knows every little thing about her. The man who tries to bring some of the sunshine back into her life. I fucking love that woman and won’t stand by and watch you try to wreck the life she’s built for herself!”

The moment I finish speaking, his fist meets the side of my face.

A foot kicks me in the shin, waking me up. Confusion clouds my thoughts, and I rub my eyes, trying to remember when I fell asleep. Where the fuck am I?

“About fucking time you woke up. What the fuck happened?” Jasper asks, his voice rougher than usual.

Blinking the haze from my eyes, my fingers tenderly press against my cheek. It’s already swollen and bruised, bringing back the memory of the fist that knocked me out. A simple hit wouldn’t have put me out long enough for me to be moved to another room though. One glance at the three other men around me clues me in that we were all drugged.

It’s probably how they got Grayson away from Jasper and Cole. There’s no way they would have let him be taken willingly. They are just as smitten with her and wouldn’t want to risk her ire if they didn’t protect him.

“Vander,” Jasper barks out, bringing my attention back to his question.

“Remi went off with her brother and her father knocked me out,” I respond with annoyance. Let a man fucking get his shit together before demanding answers from him. Fucking hell.

“Why the fuck are we here, Vander?” This time it’s Cole demanding answers. He’s studying the cuffs keeping his hands and feet locked to the ground. I’m surprised they haven’t broken out of them yet. Maybe they haven’t been awake much longer than I.

“How should I know?” I spit out before thinking through the answer to his question. A ragged sigh escapes as I rub my face. The chains connected to my wrists clang against my knee. “He doesn’t approve of her dating more than one person, much less someone he didn’t pick himself. He’s trying to force us out of her life.”

“So, why are you here then?” Cole asks at the same time Jasper mumbles, “I told you coming here was a bad fucking idea.”

Rolling my eyes, I reach into my shoe, pulling out the two lock picking tools stashed in a custom sleeve. Hopefully, these will open the lock on these cuffs. Deciding to stop fucking around themselves, Cole and Jasper pull out similar tools to get themselves out too. Since I’m the first one to get the shackles off, I help Grayson remove his as well. We have a lot to teach him.

Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, I’m not sure Remi knows how to pick locks either… “Dibs on teaching our girl how to pick locks,” I claim.

“Thanks, man,” Grayson mumbles as I release the last cuff. He seems to be taking in everything we’re saying, analyzing each word, and putting things together. We aren’t hiding the fact that we are more than comfortable around each other. And honestly, Remi lucked out with how well he goes with the flow.

“We’re calling dibs now?” Cole questions with a raised brow as he unlocks the last cuff around his ankle. He rubs at his wrists with a smirk. “I would have been calling dibs for a while now if I knew that was the game we were playing.”

“We aren’t calling dibs,” Jasper growls. He only has patience when it comes to Remi, and I’m suddenly enjoying knowing I left a bruise covering his cheek from when I punched him. “Stop avoiding giving us answers. It’s always like pulling teeth from you.”

He’s not wrong. I hate sharing information with them. “I told him I loved her and he made the rest of the connections from there,” I confess.

Jasper scoffs. “Guess you were wrong about him killing you. He must like you a lot more than you realized.”
