I’d totally forgotten she was still here. I’ve grown used to my men accepting my relationship with Ry, but Karen isn’t included in that. It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve had to hide our relationship.

“We are not canceling your birthday, Precious,” Andrik growls.

“Absolutely not,” Jedrik agrees.

“I’ve got this,” Kyle announces. “After Jedrik takes care of Charles, he can get Emmett and meet us in the kitchen.” He spins on his heel, herding us down the hallway.

“Shouldn’t we get dressed?” Ry asks, glancing down at his pajamas. I’m actually surprised all the men ended up with pants and shirts on. Even if the men are all barefoot. I only have slippers on thanks to Ryland’s quick thinking.

“Nope. It’s a pajama event,” Kyle answers. “Come on, birthday girl.” He swoops me into his arms and rushes for the kitchen, eliciting my first laugh of the day.

Chapter 51

Verity

As we pile into the kitchen, I can’t help but feel overwhelmed by the love and attention I’m receiving from my men. They showered me with their scents and kisses the whole way, and my heart swells with gratitude. Rays of early morning sunlight filter through the windows, casting shadows across the floor. It’s the first amount of sun we’ve had in days. I’m glad the relentless storms seem to have subsided.

Kyle immediately starts rummaging through the cabinets like an alpha on a mission. Bob and Sheila are nowhere in sight, which is strange considering they normally would be preparing breakfast at this time. My guess is everyone has been ordered to stay put until the council arrives.

“What are you looking for?” I ask, trying to see what he’s pulling out of the cabinets to get an idea of where this is going. My stomach rumbles as if to tell him to hurry the fuck up.

“Just getting the supplies we need for your birthday breakfast,” he answers with a grin.

Andrik walks over to me and wraps his arms around my waist. “Happy birthday, Precious. I can’t believe you didn’t tell us.” He pointedly glances at Ry. “You either.”

My best friend shrugs his shoulder. I think he was secretly wanting to see how they did in the challenges. He might know I’ve grown attached to my alphas, but it doesn’t mean he’ll ever stop wanting to make sure they’re good enough for me.

I lean back into his embrace and smile. “I wasn’t planning on making a big deal out of it. The show had plans to celebrate, including challenges for you all to complete. I think they wanted the Heat Fiends to vote on who came up with the best present for me.”

“Well, they canceled their plans, but that doesn’t mean we won’t spoil you with love,” he says, planting a soft kiss on my cheek.

Jedrik returns with Emmett who sweeps me into his arms, his dark chocolate scent wafting to my nostrils. It almost seems stronger today, as if I can taste the hints of vanilla hidden within dancing on my tongue.

When I attempt to put on an apron, I receive a growl from Kyle. “No omega of mine will cook their own birthday breakfast. On your day, you only get to watch.” The sexy glare he gives me has desire shooting between my thighs.

“Got it. I’ll stay right over here,” I respond, propping myself up on a counter.

The others bustle around the kitchen to help, and I watch as they work to prepare what appears to be French toast. Kyle stands at the stove, cooking everything, while Ry and Emmett set the table. Jedrik keeps passing Kyle the ingredients he needs and Andrik, since he’s not the greatest cook, is surveying the scene, holding me in his arms, while keeping everything running smoothly.

As I take in the sight before me, I can’t help but feel a sense of warmth spread throughout my body. These men are everything to me. They’ve shown me such love and support that I never knew was possible. And today, on my birthday, they’re going above and beyond to make me feel so fucking special.

This is what our life could look like if only they end up in my pack. I can see our Saturday mornings now, all of us in the kitchen together. Date nights out. Sweet moments of watching movies as a pack. I want it. I want it so fucking bad.

Ry comes up to me, his eyes shining with mischief. “So, Ver Bear, any birthday wishes?”

I laugh, feeling the playful energy radiating from him. “Hmm, I don’t know. A tropical paradise vacation free from cameras?”

He chuckles, his hands slipping around my waist. “Okay, I’ll see what I can do.”

As we joke around, Kyle finishes the French toast, divvying it into equal portions. Jedrik hands him some powdered sugar and syrup, which he dumps a generous portion over the top. The French toast looks absolutely delicious, and my stomach rumbles in anticipation. Before I’m able to dive in, he slides a bowl of fruit in front of me too. Strawberries, blueberries, and cut up banana slices.

With a nod, he decides it’s finished. “Let’s eat, shall we?”

We all grab our plates, each of my men making sure I’m comfortable and have everything I need. “Are you sure you don’t want more syrup?” Emmett asks, noticing I keep glancing at the bottle.

“No, it’s the scent. I swear it’s as if they took Jedrik and squeezed him into a bottle. I’m trying to remember the brand, so I can find it when all of this is over.”

Jedrik pauses with his fork halfway to his mouth, a drop of maple syrup spilling onto the counter. His nostrils flare as he inhales and a strange expression crosses his face. “This is what I smell like to you?” he asks.
