I legitimately don’t know where I end, and he begins.

Andrik flips me once more so I can watch him fall apart. “Now, you’re going to take this knot like the good girl I know you are, aren’t you?” I’m nodding before he’s even finished because it’s the only thing I can do. Words aren’t possible right now.

He thrusts into me, locking eyes, creating a deeper connection as he works his knot into me. A little more of it stretches me with each thrust until it’s slipping inside me. After another few grinding strokes that press perfectly into my G-spot, his knot inflates, locking us together. I swear it sends another echo of an orgasm through me. Is death by orgasm a thing? Holy shit.

My walls pulse around him, and he follows me into bliss with a hoarse roar.

Andrik helps straighten my hair, pushing some of it behind my ear as he wraps his arms underneath me and pulls us into a sitting position. This way, we can lean on each other while his knot is inflated. He trails kisses along my shoulder and neck, all the while praising how much of a good girl I am and how much he loves me.

“I love you too,” I murmur into his shoulder.

He tips my chin up and presses the softest of kisses against my lips. “Mine.”

“Yours,” I confirm.

These stolen few moments amidst a world of chaos are what I live for. They’re what keep me strong in the face of the danger we’re in. And I’ll never give them up.

When Andrik’s knot deflates, he slips out, and I instantly miss the connection. But not for long, because he scoops me into his arms and carries me to the shower, making sure it’s nice and steamy before washing me all over.

Distantly, I hear the door open and Ry walks into the bathroom. His gaze roves over the two of us and heats. “As much as I’d love to join you two in there, we have a murderer to catch. Come on, we need to regroup and talk about what we’ve found.”

Well, at least I got to ignore reality for a little while.

Chapter 48

Ryland

As much as it pains me to interrupt Andrik and Ver, knowing how much they need their alone time together, it’s imperative we go back and catalog the footprints in the passageways as evidence. I ran into Kyle and Jedrik on the way back from searching for my own clues regarding Chad’s murder, and they filled me in on what happened earlier.

They also told me not to go barging in. Unless I wanted to. A part of me sort of did, but the other knows they needed their own bonding time.

Verity—completely uncaring of her nakedness around me—steps out of the shower and allows me to wrap her in one of the fluffy towels. I work on drying her off while Andrik does the same. “I’ll go find us some clean clothes to wear,” he murmurs, wrapping the towel around his waist. He presses a chaste kiss to Verity’s lips and whispers something too softly for me to hear, but it has her expression softening. Before walking out the door, he shoots a wink at me, letting me know he’s totally giving me a moment with my Ver Bear. We’re still making up for lost time.

“How are you feeling?” I press, knowing sometimes Ver likes to retreat into herself when she’s anxious. “You’ve been keeping so busy lately and with everything happening, I want to make sure you’re okay.”

She lets out a sigh, resting her head against my chest. “You’re right. I haven’t been spending enough time with you. I’m sorry, Ry—“

I rub my hands up and down her arms, halting the rest of her sentence. She’s way off base with that train of thought. “Don’t apologize, Ver Bear. This isn’t about me. It’s about how you’re doing. We have the rest of our lives to spend time together. Right now, it’s important you bond with your new alphas.”

She shakes her head but doesn’t look at me. “It’s also important I make sure you know how much you’re loved. Fuck, apparently sex makes me emotional.”

Moving some of her wet hair behind her ear, I place a soft kiss against her head. “Trust me, I know, Ver. Because I love you infinitely, and I know you inside and out.”

She squeezes me harder and leans back, finally gazing into my eyes. Our lips slowly make their way toward one another until we touch, then it’s like fireworks explode and we both can’t get enough. I sweep my tongue through her mouth and she bites my lip. I reach a hand up to cradle her and tilt her head at a better angle, causing her to moan.

When we surface for air, she lets out a little laugh. Much better. “You really do taste exactly like champagne.”

“Do I now?” I’m sure a cocky grin is affixed on my face.

She nods. “Yep, the best. The kind that’s dangerous because it goes down so smoothly.”

Andrik clears his throat, having reappeared from the closet. He hands her a comfy-looking pair of shorts and one of his oversized T-shirts. With the murders distracting Mrs. Violet, she doesn’t seem to worry about filming us at every waking hour, which means Ver can wear whatever she wants. “What’s the plan?” he asks.

“Jedrik and Kyle are meeting us there,” I explain. “Jed said he had an idea of how we could capture one of the footprints to place into evidence.”

Verity tilts her head. “Where’s Emmett?”

“I stopped by the clinic on my way here and he said he’d be late. Apparently, one of the camera crew guys is sick. So, he’s staying late to take care of him, but said he’d be by later. And threatened us with bodily harm to keep you safe.” I smirk at the memory. I really do enjoy knowing she has alphas who truly care about her.
