I look around me and take in her room. She’s sleeping on the floor on her old mattress because she didn’t wait for the one I ordered for her and her stuff is still in boxes. She doesn’t even have a fitted sheet on the damned thing.

Not that she would have taken the damned bed anyway. I step closer and bend down, so I can get a better look. And spot the tear stains that have dried on her face. She is thinner than she was before just like I thought which tells me she’s not eating like she should be. She typically forgets to eat when I don’t remind her, and I haven’t had a chance for the last two weeks.

“Avie. Avie, baby.” I call her name and touch her bare shoulder. Tamping down my anger over the other issues I have with this shitshow and the fact she didn’t lock her door to keep any of the men she’s rooming with away, they also let me in without knowing who the hell I was, what I wanted with Avery, or anything. How the hell is that safe?

It’s not! She’s not safe here! Anyone can just walk in on her while she’s at her most vulnerable…and mostly naked. I am not happy at all, but I swallow that down and concentrate on why I am here. I want to talk to Avery. Just talk. I need to find out what is going on with her and what I can do to make it better. I have to get her back in my life.

“Avery,” She wakes up slowly and realizes I’m in her room.

“Murph?” her hand comes up to touch my face but changes her mind before she makes contact. “Murph, what are you doing here?”

She doesn’t even realize when she sits up that her clothes are completely see-through. Does she walk around the apartment like that? I hope to God for their sake she doesn’t because I would hate to have to kill both of them.

Now instead of just the swell of her breasts I can see every damned thing. Lust and anger swirl inside of me so hot and fast it’s hard to contain it all.

“Why are you sleeping on the floor? Why haven’t you bought a bed yet?”

It’s not what I really want to say but it’s what comes out first.

“What?” Her brows crease together and I can tell she’s trying to make sense out of my questions. And the fact that I’m in her room.

“Why don’t you have a bed?”

“I…I guess I haven’t really had time to think about it. I’ve been kind of busy with the move and the job and everything.” She waves her hands around which just draws more attention to her large breasts as they sway in the thin fabric. “I’ll eventually order one when I get the time.”

“Yeah, sure.” I stand and take a step back so that I don’t risk touching her. I don’t believe her at all. “You have a perfectly good bed back at my place. You could just take it. Then you wouldn’t have to worry about having the time.”

“No! That’s...,” she looks around like she might find an excuse just lying around the room, “That would be too big for this room. Besides, that one is yours. You’ll need it for the next roommate, or your mom can use it when she comes to spend time with you.”

“The bed was bought for you. It was meant to be just yours. Not mom’s or who the hell ever else you think will use it.”

She pushes the hair back out of her eyes and finally meets my eyes. “Is there a reason you’re here, Murphy? Did I forget something? Leave something behind?”

“This place isn’t safe. The neighborhood isn’t the safest.”

“What? It’s safe. It’s very safe.”

“You have no doorman, you have no lock on your fucking door to keep people out,” I pace to the door to prove my point, “and your ‘roommates’ let whoever the fuck comes in through the god damned door.”

She sits on the bed with her face tilted up in that damned shirt I can see her nipples in and all I can do is curl my fingers into fists to keep from doing something stupid.

“You could be assaulted and killed before you even wake the fuck up.”

She comes up on her knees with a frown on her face, “Thanks for that, asshole. Now I have yet another reason not to sleep. Thanks a lot!”

“When is the last time you ate, god damn it?”

“What?” She sits back on her heels and looks lost again.

“Come on. Pack your things. We’re leaving.” My mind is made up. It was made up when her soft, round breasts swayed back and forth enticingly in that thin fucking shirt. It was made up when her bare thighs spread apart just before she woke up and said my name.

“What the fuck?”

“I’m leaving…and you’re leaving with me!”
