“Maisy, I love you with all my heart, but I know you’ve got so much of your life that will keep us apart with your college and whatever you do next.”

I open my mouth to object, but he silences me with a finger pressed against my lips.

“I want to give you that freedom, but I want to make sure we are committed to each other no matter what happens next for either of us.”

I’m not sure what he’s really trying to say, but I immediately agree. “Of course. I’m one hundred percent committed to you, Gavin.”

He smiles and breathes a sigh of relief. “You’re probably going to tell me I’m being silly and moving too fast, but I can’t imagine letting another day go by without making this official.”

He drops to one knee next to the bed and holds out a box to me. “Maisy, will you do me the honor of being my wife? It’s my mom’s ring. I can get you another if you hate it. No rush on the date, of course. I just want—”

I squeal with joy and nearly knock over the tray of food as I try to hug him. “Of course. The sooner the better. Is there somewhere we can do it today?”

Gavin laughs and then kisses me.

My body tingles with joy.

“We can wait a little longer than that. I want us to have a big wedding with all the bells and whistles, and to see you making some wedding dress look radiant, and to plan a proper honeymoon. The whole nine yards.”

“Yes, Gavin. I want all that, too. And babies. As soon as I graduate. Lots of babies. We’ll need a bigger house to have room for all of your children I want to have.”

“Deal. I can wait a few years for that as long as we’re waiting together. I love you, Maisy.”

“I love you, too, Gavin. Thanks for making this the best Christmas ever.”

“Eat up, baby doll. I think we’ve got time to make love again before we clean up and head over to tell your parents the big news.”

I dive into the meal. It’s the best food I’ve ever eaten because Gavin made it for me.
