Landon patted my thigh and looked deep into my eyes. “It’s taking a boat ride, or going golfing, or…” A broad smile stretched from ear to ear, showing his perfectly straight teeth. “Running into someone in a field and having that be a highlight of the day.”

“Really? I was a highlight?” My heart skipped a beat and a weird fluttery sensation flurried in my stomach.

“Is that weird?” For a moment the smile faded.

“No, I mean it happened to me, ‘cuz I was excited to see you too, I just wasn’t sure of what any of it meant.”

He sucked on his top lip and let it pop out with a slight kissing sound. More questions swirled and his facial expressions morphed from confused to curious to surprised, all before circling back to confused. “This can’t be… This isn’t your first relationship, right?”

Fighting the urge to hide my head from the glaring youth I was suddenly highlighting, I swallowed and took a deep breath as I rubbed my palms on the tops of my socks. Unable to look him in the eye, I stared across the space at the picture of us. “Yes, the first one to exceed three meetups or dates or you know…”

“You’re doing great. We don’t need to rush anything.” He cupped my cheek and gently turned my head. Sucking in a huge gulp of air, he steadied himself, allowing a small smile to tease the corners of his perfect lips. “I promise. If something feels weird, tell me, and I’ll back off. Okay?”

My chest tightened, and a heaviness in my gut replaced that wonderful fluttery feeling I’d enjoyed just a moment ago. Would it be the worst thing in the world if we were in a relationship? I really liked him, and I liked being with him in more ways than just sex. Being his girlfriend – the word made me gasp slightly – seemed like a huge step, however, it would make getting to Cedar much easier, but then what happens when I’ve made contact with her? Do I stop talking to him? Tell him I got what I needed? Would this be something I’d just know when the time was right? Damn, this is why I avoided things like this; there were too many unanswered questions. Maybe I needed to talk to Erin about this some more.

“What are you thinking?”

A quick blink freed me from my thoughts, and I forced a smile onto my face to hide my mass confusion. “Sure.” I shrugged, hoping my voice sounded light and airy. “If I can survive a boat ride, this whole relationship thing should be much easier.”

“Just promise to be open with me. That’s all I ask.”

“Okay. I promise.” I made little bobbing motions with my head and leaned back slightly, needing a little space. The air had become much heavier than I preferred.

Landon rubbed my knee, eyes drawn down as he was distracted by the feel of the stockings. I had tried to find the softest ones I owned.

“Oh, these are nice.”

“Yes, they are.” I raked my gaze over him, somewhat happy that the topic was being changed. Already the charge in the air was different. “I picked them out just for you.”

The top of his fingers grazed my cheek. “Just for me?”

“You said I could wear what I wanted as long as I wore stockings.”

There was a sharp inhale, and his focus ran down and up my legs, over my sweater, and settled back on my face once more. “Is that all?”

I leaned to whisper in his ear, even though we were all alone. “I’m not wearing underwear.”

“Damn.” He looked at the clock on the wall. “We have time.”

“Excellent, I was hoping you’d say that.” My smile bloomed as fast as the heat in my core.

He stood, scooping me in his arms, and carried me to the bedroom.

“Are you sure?”

“Oh, I’m sure.” He set me on the bed and proceeded to undress, not taking his time at all. It seemed rather rushed, and the whole idea of a quick romp was completely exciting.

I matched him article for article until he stood in his briefs and me in my socks. “Do you want these on?”

“Hell ya.” He stepped closer and ghosted a kiss across my lips.

Logical thoughts went out the window as he cupped my breast and trailed a teasing hand down over my hips. Despite the speed, he was tender and gentle as he warmed me up with his skilled fingers, readying me to welcome him in. And it wasn’t long before we were connected and moving in a frenzied rhythm.

My hands grabbed his hair and gave him a new, tousled look as he rapidly thrusted, and released his breath in a low, deep grunt while he shuddered.

Although a satisfied, dreamy expression softened his features, he reached between my legs and brought my heart rate up to speed, working me into a fury of desire. It didn’t take long either, and I happily squealed in delight as I fell over the proverbial cliff.

Landon kissed me with more intensity and stared into my eyes. “That was wild.”
