He smiled down upon her and brushed her bangs off her face. “And the night isn’t even finished. First show starts in…” With a quick glance to his watch, he said, “Ten minutes.”

She searched the faces of the people around her, jumping and pacing around. “When can I go see Cedar?”

Since Frank’s passing, Cedar and Libby have shared many lunches together, sometimes twice a week, and both were thrilled to have a newfound family. Even Everest met up with them once.

Amber grabbed a water glass. “Head up to our bedroom, and knock. Chloe will be able to tell you if it’s okay to come in.”

“Be right back.”

“Ten minutes,” Landon called out after her.

Libby danced onto the rear deck and over to a set of stairs and scaled them rather quickly. Race-walking down the deck with the back of her dress kissing her ankles, she stopped just outside the door. Beyond, she heard a tiny baby cry.

“Cedar?”

“Come on in, Libby, it’s all good.”

Quietly, she tiptoed inside the room, past Chloe who stood alongside the wall; her focus on the two adults on the bed. “Ohmygod, congrats. Where is he?”

“Here.” She stroked the towel. “He’s doing well.”

“And you? You’re okay?”

“Never better. It came as a bit of a surprise when my water broke during dinner, but the labour was fast and furious.”

“I’m glad you’re not sick.” With adoring eyes, she gazed up at her big sister. “Everest will love hearing about this. Maybe Juniper too.”

“LOL. Everest for sure, and well…”

“Yeah, Juniper’s on the fence as it won’t help his own population growth.” Pushing aside the length of her gown, she crawled onto the bed beside Cedar. “Do you have a name picked out?” Libby’s gaze danced between Cedar and Mitch.

“I really like Ocean.” There was a hint of a plea and a whisper of hope in her voice as she smiled up at her partner.

“Ocean, really?” Mitch scrunched up his nose.

“It goes well with Ziggy and Saffron, sort of.”

His big hand covered the outline of the baby’s form. “We’ll need to discuss it further.”

Cedar turned her focus on the baby, and she spoke softly to the newest addition. “Guess we’re still deciding.”

“Or you could keep with the family tradition?” Tenderly, Libby rubbed the top of her nephew’s head with her finger.

“How’s that?”

“Call him a tree name… Like Oak or Willow.”

“No way.” Mitch put down his metaphorical foot. “I’m not having a son named Willow.”

“Could do Forest?” Cedar raised a brow and then winced as if in a bit of pain.

Chloe was there in a heartbeat. “What’s up?”

“Just a bit of a cramp.”

“Yeah, I should probably do another quick check.”

“That’s my cue to leave.” Libby hopped off the bed, jostling it as she did. “Sorry.” She walked to the door, hanging off the frame. “Oh, I heard we’re close to the turnaround point. Fireworks start in a few minutes.”
